President Christofias told a meeting of relatives of missing persons that positive steps have been made on the issue of people missing since the 1974 Turkish invasion in Cyprus.

The president said that both the scientific personnel and teams performing exhumations on both sides of the divide have been speeding up the process of identification.

He added that the government will never give up demanding that the fate of each missing person is fully investigated .

Over 1.500 Greek Cypriots and 200 Turkish Cypriots have been missing since 1974, but only just over 100 of them have been identified.

House speaker Marios Karoyian told the relatives' meeting that the House, in co-ordination with the government, will intensify its efforts aimed at convinsing Turkey to comply with a decision by the European Court of Human Rights to co-operate in the process of investigating the fate of missing persons.

200 TC's

It just get's better with time like a red wine.

Based on these stats, it would only be barely 4 to 5 hundred GC's missing, if that, since the Greek coupe attempt. The devastation those Greeks caused to these 'innocent' missing GC's

And all the TCs who are missing were actually killed by the Turks when they were bombing Cyprus?

Barroso - Cyprus missing persons
FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE 19.APR.09

President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso has called on Turkey to follow up rapidly and in full the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) regarding missing persons in Cyprus.

Replying to a question by MEP Marios Matsakis on possible war crimes committed by the Turkish army in Cyprus, Barroso says the Commission is aware of the importance of the issue of missing persons in Cyprus.

“It follows from a judgment of the ECHR (Cyprus v Turkey 10 May 2001) that Turkey is obliged to ensure effective investigation aimed at clarifying the whereabouts and fate of Greek Cypriot missing persons, who disappeared in life-threatening circumstances. It is urgent for Turkey to follow up this judgement rapidly and in full”, Barroso points out.
