I'm a Cypriot. What do you think?

I've told u before that someone just saying "I'm a Cypriot." does not make him a Cypriot. In general chat section I listed some qualifications that in my opinion someone who consider himself/herself Cypriot must have at least some qualifications of being a Cypriot. Nevertheless, everyone is free to identify ownselves how they wish or feel.

Some of the dinasaurs that haven't gone extinct are evolving.

With me? Not too keen on marching up and down waving flags that I know will upset other Cypriots. Happened a lot in northern Ireland. Doesn't go down to well. Can cost lives.

Did anyone say they had to? They can embrace Zeno...and Aphrodite instead if they like.

That Turkish Cypriots are Ottoman remnants is a fact so the probability that some of these former Ottomans may come from mainland Turkey is there.

Of course, they may well come from anywhere from within the former Ottoman empire… ie: Bulgaria and right around to Egypt even!

I did read somewhere that Ottoman records of family trees were being kept and can be accessed today somewhere in Istanbul so it’s well worth a trip for them to find out exactly which region of the Ottoman empire they come from.

Historically, there is a good possibility of connection between Ottoman remnants and modern Turkey but next to nothing between indigenous Cypriots and Greece unless of course Greek mythologies are to be taken into account, so technically it’s much more difficult for Turkish Cypriots to denounce Turkey and a piece of cake for “Greek Cypriots” to denounce Greece if they allow common sense to prevail but that’s the tricky part… Greek mythology and common sense are mutually exclusive!

But doesn't someone saying I'm a Turk make them a Turk? Or have I got Mustafa Kemal all wrong.

Thanks. But can you let us Cypriots decide on our own qualifications please.

Are you trying to catch me out, insan? They fought for liberty and union with Greece. I admire them for fighting for liberty but the liberty that was secured from the British in 1960 was not union with Greece and it certainly wasn't true liberty. Perhaps Cyprus wasn't ready for true liberty then.

The question is, is she ready now? And if not, when insan? When?

I already mentioned two.

Dervis Ali Kavazoglu and Kostas Mishiaoulis. Who died for friendship between Cypriots.
The singer Michalis Terlikkas
The poet Dimitris Lipertis.
