I am a Cypriot first and fore most......... apart from that all else is detail. I happen to speak Turkish not Greek as a mother tongue; both are official languages of our nation, I'm a born and bred Muslim and a Social Democrat by choice. I am also a pianist and a Europhile. I'm a Londoner for the past 12 years and my children are half Irish. My grand mother was of Nubian (Sudanese) origin hence my dark complexion while my father's side is a mixture of banished heretics from Karaman in Anatolia and Palestinians. I'm also a Pafiot. :)

I forgot to mention - I cherish all these ingredients but beyond everything I'm proud to be a Cypriot!

Interesting how there seems to be a direct causal link between the (1) and (2).

I've noticed this a lot on this forum.

Turkish has been the scourge of Cyprus. It should be confined to the back-burner. We only need one unifying official language and by default, due to the prevailing (thousands of years) majority dialect being Greek, so it should be standardised ...

I am sure a reasonable sounding person like yourself would endorse this ....

Turkish is NOT a scourge at all.... Its an integral and beautiful part of Cypriontness. You can never get rid of it. You will erase yourself!

Cypriotness is like a cake - it is made up of so many different ingredients that if you take away one you have a completely different cake whose name is no longer 'Cyprus' as we know it. I don't know about you Oracle but I rather like this existing cake.

But surely, as a reasonable sounding person like yourself, you must realise that the unifying language of the Imperialists (and the lingua franca of the western world) is a far, far better medium through which to cross rhetorical swords with a fellow Cypriot, O?

I mean, how would you have got the above particular gem across to Omer, in Greek?
