Help!

Postby CBBB » Sun Apr 12, 2009 5:00 pm

Just been watching Marmalakis and he made a nice looking vegetable dish, the problem is I am not sure what the main ingredient was.

The recipe referred to it as ριζα ρεβα.

Any ideas anyone? English and Cypriot name would be nice.

Cheers.

I eventually found the answer on a Greek language site.

I can't find the recipe on his web site, but basically it was thin slices of turnip and carrot just very quickly fried in olive oil then adding equal amounts of cream and milk, it was left for the liquid to boil down to a thick creamy consistency. Spices were salt, pepper, a stick of cinnamon and a grating of nutmeg at the end before serving.

He used it as an accompaniment to roast gammon.

It look quite tasty and as I hadn't seen the first minute or so, I thought it was potato slices, but when they showed the recipe at the end it ws turnip (at least I know that now).

Not a low calorie meal then! Sounds good though.
Let us know how you get on and if it really is worth making please. :)

Have to find the turnips first, I haven't seen them here, only the traditional Scottich 'neeps' which are referred to as swede-turnips, but you could probably use them.
