TALAT-WASHINGTON

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby turkkan » Sat Apr 11, 2009 5:01 pm

I'm not saying there isn't a meeting taking place nor that it should not happen. All I'm saying is, Hillary was in Talat's back yard earlier this week, so why didn't he go and see her then.? He did not, because "Mr. Talat Goes to Washington" has a nice sound to it.

The reason he has ended up going washington has nothing to do with liking the idea of being invited to washington, although its something your president or foreign minister have not been invited to do ,but everything to do with the meeting your greek lobby blocked in turkey with talat. He was going to meet her last week, it would have taken place in turkey so it would not have been to surprising as everyone would expect turkey to arrange this meeting and that was going to be it. Instead you guys decided to block it via your lobby, the americans decided to appease you by making sure clinton would have to meet your foreign minister Kyprianou first before any meeting with talat takes place, and the final story is now talat is off to washington. If you had not meddled with the original plans it would have come out far better for your side in terms of PR. At the end of the day anyhow this is nothing to do with you but everything to do with making sure talat wins the next elections.

This is the second attempt by President Talat to go to Washington.
There were allegations that the Greek Cypriot side had prevented the previous visit from becoming realized but President Talat has confirmed that the visit had been cancelled due to its clashing with Mrs. Clinton’s busy working schedule.

Fresh reactions have recently come from the Greek Cypriot political circles regarding Talat’s Washington visit.

Greek Cypriot media reports said that the Greek Cypriot Foreign Minister Markos Kiprianu prepares to meet with Clinton just a few days after the Talat-Clinton meeting in Washington.

The Greek Cypriot DIKO party defined Talat’s visit as a provocation against the so-called Republic of Cyprus governed by the Greek Cypriot Side.

The next Talat-Christofias meeting which was scheduled to take place on Wednesday next week has been postponed by the way.

The date of the next meeting remains unknown but it’s been confirmed that the two leaders will continue negotiations with a new chapter- the Economy.

hasnt that always been their strongest tool a one sided understanding of the Cyprus problem??

As long as the north is seen to be militarilly occupied and supported, there is not going to be much sympathy regardless of the detente. You call the northern administration Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, but - and lets be honest - wouldn't the better term be Turkish Controlled Northern Cyprus?

Call it what you want but without the Turkish Army we would have been mince meat and even today they act as a deterrant for people like Sotos Piriatis Kifeas etc who are just biting at the bit to attack. ıf you do not hear or communicate with both parties how are you supposed to make a sound assesment of the problem and support a solution?

Would you care to remind us how many T/Cs became "mincemeat " some 6 years before the Turkish invasion that you are told was to stop the massacre going on. Presumably you have some figures of the "mincemeat" that took place during the preceding years of the invasion , let us have them !

Was the problem at an end in 1974? who was suffering the most while you GCs hijacked and exploited the "RoC"?

Look viewpoint: you are telling me the positive effects of their presence. I'm mentioning to you the negative effects, and IMHO, the negative effects are outweighing the positive.

Look Ali, what r the negative effects of Turkish troops?

1. The proportion of Turkish Troops to the civil population is inordinately high, particularly given the proximity of Turkey itself to Cyprus.

2. These troops are not subject to the orders of Talat (or even Gul), but by the Turkish Armed Forces General Staff. This makes their presence as hand at the throat of the civil populace, and Talat's administration.

3. Their "security zones" (look at Famagusta/Maras for example) makes a lot of TCNC's territory off limits to its people.

utu do you know exactly how many armed GC reservists there are in the GC south Cyprus?

see knucklehead you are stuck on the same single punch line...here is an idea lift the needle of the crack and move it along so the song gets to finish...you never know we might get to like the whole song...

Surely you are not that dumb to think isolation will be lifted...with this visit...or the next one...

I heard the EU saying EU decitions are taken in the EU alone and not in the US...

Just concetrate on the Orams case and the outcome and leave the thinking to others that can actually think and not pretend with their single monolithic knuckle, free standing on their shoulders...
