Kosovo is not recognized by the UN AS A WHOLE THE security council never recognized it and with russia and china on the SC never will.UNLESS there is a agreement between serbia and kosovo. However Kosovo is recognized by individual states something the "trnc" is not.

President Talat, talked about the Cyprus problem yesterday at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Talat, who gave detailed information on the ongoing negotiations aimed at finding a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem, stated that Turkish Cypriots have been working to achieve a settlement in Cyprus since 2004 and reiterated their strong commitment to peace on the island. Talat stated that the Cyprus problem should be solved in the beginning of 2010 the latest, before presidential elections, which serve as a natural deadline.

Talat underlined the importance of UN parameters and expressed his belief that differences between the two sides may be bridged if they stick to these parameters.

Talat also highlighted the significance of the agreements they reached with Greek Cypriot Leader Demetris Christofias. “We created a series of commitments for solution,” said Talat. “We are seeking a bicommunal bizonal federal solution. This federal partnership will be comprised of Greek Cypriot and a Turkish Cypriot constituent states of equal status. It will have a single international personality and in principle, single citizenship and sovereignty, details of which are to be negotiated. These commitments are important since it is the first time these have been underlined and accepted by the leaders of the two peoples. Although among UN parameters, these were never accepted and established before.”

Talat, who stated that they have reached a lot of convergence on EU matters expressed hope that there will also be a lot of convergence in economic issues. He underlined the need for arrangements to protect the Turkish Cypriot economy for a certain peried of time.

President Talat reiterated the need for the lifting of isolations on the Turkish Cypriot people. He expressed regret for the lack of implementation of the confidence building measures, which have been agreed on by the technical committees. Talat stated that the Greek Cypriot side is preventing the implementation with the fear that such openings and cooperation would cause the recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus by implication.

At the end of the day Talats visit was not a success,he was recognized as the leader of the t/c community, the state department issued a statement saying we recognize only ONE ROC,AND THERE WAS no mention of the meeting on Clintons daily schedule(like it never happened)and there was no joint press conference at the end of the 30 minute meeting.

Do you by any chance have the statement from the State Department, Boulio.? Did the meeting even take place at the State Department, which may be the reason as to why it was not listed officially on Clinton's calendar. If the meeting only took 30 minutes, it could have been disguised under "extended lunch break" or "extra curriculum activity".!

Well, let us see how Talat understands the statement he made in teh capital of the worlds foremost democratic federal state. He stressed the solution based on a Bizonal Bicommunal FEDERATION!

Using the word in the USA, where they fought a bloody civil war to defeat the CONFEDERACY does have a certain symbolic significance.

In 400 pages of CIA report(1973-1976) then the US officials used the same word FEDERATION. Guess how they concluded their conversation regarding a federation in Cyprus. GR knows...

Sounds to me that you think that the terms federation and confederacy are synonomous. They are quite different in meaning.
