I emigrated to the UK in 1961 on my own at the age of 15 ( Here we go again I hear GR exclaim) on a Cypriot passport .Some years later I obtained British nationality whilst still retaining the Cypriot one.
Ever since then I have held a British passport and have sworn to chuck it away when a statue of Bin Laden is erected in Trafalgar square !!!! My Cypriot ID was issued by the British in 1958 when I attained the age of 12 and as required by the British rulers once you reached the age of 12 you had to have an ID.
Lost it over the years and a few years back I had it reissued at Lemesos after some vociferous arguments with the issuing authorities who insisted that my name was Giannakis and not as shown on my passport and all other legal documents as Yiannis. They informed me that the spelling was based on Latin !!!! I raised my voice , in fact I shouted at them and demanded to see their superior to whom I addressed my by now uncontrollable anger telling him that Yiannis is the way my name is spelled and written and not in bloody Latin.He relented and Im now the proud owner of my Cypriot ID showing my full name as Yiannis Miltiades Savvides , known by all as John !!!!
Strange how our surnames , most us anyway , were created. When you went to school for the first time you are asked the name of your grandfather and when you replied Antonis or Demetris they put you down as Antoniades or Demetriou in my case my grandfathers name was Savva so I became Savvides. Crazy system it was in those days , my real family name was Choukkas , often thought of reverting back to it but some how never did. The strange thing is that my father had his own grandfathers name and was signed as Christodoulou , years later when he came to the UK he changed it to Savvides.
There you are folks my full family story. Now did I tell you when I , quite a few years ago , I was in the music......

If you are referring to the future, I would agree but if you are currently a BRITISH NATIONAL, you cannot also be a CYPRIOT NATIONAL unless you have DUAL NATIONALITY which you do not have. DO YOU VOTE IN CYPRUS ?

Depends what your definition of a Greek Cypriot is. If it's the son of two parents who emigrated from Greece but was born and raised in Cyprus, then, no. As that's what I am, but replace 'Greek/Greece' with 'London'

Paphitis gave a clear explanation in another thread, Cypriot is the nationality, GREEK is the ETHNOS. At the moment you are not a Cypriot national nor are you a GREEK by Ethnos based on your alleged rejections so perhaps we can call you a "CHARLIE" !

I think we all enjoyed reading your life story but I do not think you can hold both a BRITISH PASSPORT & A CYPRIOT PASSPORT unless you have DUAL NATIONALITY. The ID card is not a passport. So what is your current nationality.

Byron you are wrong mate. ALL CYPRIOTS BORN IN CYPRUS OF CYPRIOT PARENTS AUTOMATICALY HAVE A CYPRIOT NATIONALITY .FACT.
If they also decide to apply for the nationality of the nation the are living in they do but still retain their country of birth nationality. This is why , even today men requiring to do national service in Cyprus have to apply for an exit visa. My son who was born in the UK and has an English mother and a British only passport also has to apply for an Exit permit. My daughter who lives in Cyprus has , like thousands upon thousands of others with same circumstances , dual nationality. She is planning a trip to the UK in June , she has her Cypriot ID and British passport. The two children have Cypriot passports of their own.
May I just clarify again that a Cypriot born national who obtains by virtue of residence in another country that country's nationality does not lose his Cypriot nationality .

Listen Mr Anti TC the capitulation plan you are trying to entice TCs to accept does not have anything to do with land return, that is secondery to the real problem which is the risk you wish to place TCs in by not guaranteeing their only representation rights in the upper house as the lower has been lost on day 1. You never mentioned the dangers and it took me a while to understand the risk you so calmly wished to place us in, I will let others decide what that makes you.
