A 36-year-old Turkish Cypriot police officer has committed a suicide at the Ledra Street Crossing Point.

Soner Uzunoglulari fired his service pistol, targeting his chest close to the heart.

He died at the scene.

The incident occured behind the passport control points located at the Ledra Crossing.

Ledra is the main crossing point between the Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish-held north.

dont know, there are very high suicide rates amongst TC and turkish policemen

maybe the t/cs here can shed light on this

what would cause him to do such a thing? poor guy and his family if he had one. the pressure of being a police and being run by the turkish army

Very sad, but it seems very strange to do it while on duty in a not very private place.

He just discovered that he was a policement of no state.

He was dieing to end his isolation. :roll:

Because he was working for the Turkish Army, his conscience might have got the better of him.

No mention of family in the TC press.

Apparently he fired his hand gun whilst in the pre-fab Toilet facilty while he was sitting down. The bullet passed through his body, pierced the Toilet wall(plastic) and passed between two of his colleagues. The investigation is still ongoing.

Maybe it was an accident. (my opinion).
