Prices of food in Paphos?

Postby Zelda » Thu Apr 09, 2009 10:46 am

Hi everyone!
I have plans to move down to Cyprus, to the city Paphos.
I'm wondering about food prices in regular grocery stores/supermarkets in Paphos where the people from Cyprus do they regular food-shopping.

For example:

What would a kilo of Tomatoes cost?
What would a kilo of Bacon cost?
What would ~12 Eggs cost?
What would 1,5L Coca Cola cost?
If you can mention more price-examples it would be great!

I'm trying to get some figures here, I know it depends on the stores. But lets not take prices from the stores in the middle of the tourist area, I think they're very expensive.

Can you please let us know if you are Cypriot, Brit or Mycenaean?

Because if you are Brit, we have to add the extra tax on top of the normal price...

Only Mycenaeans qualify for the 10% discount in Paphos.

Standard Tarrifs in Paphos ae as follows:

1) Mycenaens get a 10% discount,
2) Cypriots pay recommended retail + VAT, and
3) Brits pay recommended retail + VAT + Brit Tax.

I did not include the Pontians as they just shop lift anyway.....

In the UK, if I got to Aldi for cola I pay 30p per bottle. If I go to Sainsburys I can pay £1.10 for bottle. Depends where you shop. Goto Carrefour, big supermarket just outside Kato Paphos. There is also a supermarket in the Old Town (not sure of name sorry). Go there. Avoid all touristy places and things will be cheaper.

Try Orphanidies in Limassol too. (if you are there of course)

Thanks for all the replies!

I'm from Sweden and I still live in here. I'm currently trying to lookup as much as possible about the cost of living in Cyprus.

Btw, I know broadband is available in Cyprus, but what about the cost? I looked at some sites and it did seem to be very expensive if I compare the prices to the standard pricing for broadband in Sweden and USA for example. But I don't know, the information I read might be old.
