Talat ahead in north Cyprus polls

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Talat ahead in north Cyprus polls

Postby CBBB » Thu Apr 09, 2009 8:21 am

FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE 09.APR.09
A poll in the north of Cyprus published 12 days ahead of so-called parilamentary elections shows the ruling centre Republican Party slightly ahead of the right-wing opposition National Unity Party.

The servey puts the Republican Party at 33.8% and the National Unity Party at 31.6%.

The number of voters is just above 160.000 thousand, with more than half of them being mainland Turkey settlers, who were given Greek Cypriot properties after the 1974 Turkish invation of Cyprus.

Press reports say the Turkish government has come in favour of a settler's party.

A newspaper said that Turkish government officials are expected next week in the occupied part of Cyprus with a view of giving their support to the party.

This seems to indicate that Turkey already considers the occupied areas as part of Turkey otherwise this would be labelled as "outside interference".

A recent report in the Afrika newspaper suggests that the Turkish government is finding it harder to control the settlers' votes the way it once used to.

Well, for anyone who has been living 'on' Cyprus for 35 years, some enlightment is obviously inevitable ;)

35 years, and naturally they would object to the master of puppets...

by the way, here's the turkey's current governing party 'akp's flag/amblem :

and here's their 'gift' to the supported 'settler' party (just arrived?):

please note the flag/amblem of the TC correspondant party :) the guy on the bus, is the leader, and his resume says he was born in Larnaca.

A further factor is the existence of an increasing number of second (and even third) generation of Cyprus-born offspring of settlers who are not going to be pushed around the way their parents were.

Some others were in Cyprus for over 400 years but finally left.

No Palio, this election is for Parliament, Talat will not stand for Presidential election next year if there is no agreement to put to the people by then.
