The living Cypriot culture

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Zeno of Citium is known to the world as a GREEK philosopher, not a Cypriot one (of Pheonician origin).

Aphrodite is known to the world as a GREEK goddess, not a Cypriot one (again, as it happens, of Pheonician origin).
We have given these two personages to Greece when they are in fact ours (and, Greek only after the event).

Why are these two "ours" if you say they were originally Phoenician?

I claimed them.

I sense even your 'one' head probably can't fit in your fez .... perhaps it's time for a bigger fez for that expanding head of yours!

Maybe you are just worn out, having taken up a Sisyphean task to convince the masses (whose positive counter-arguments you have clearly underestimated), that your "Word" and prophecies are the way to a new and better future, and they should follow without questioning ..... or am I confusing you with that other megalomaniac who was crucified :?

Don't roll your eyes at me, woman. If the Romans can claim Aphrodite for themselves then why can't the Cypriots. Legend has it, she was born in Paphos you know. And Zeno was born in Citium.

Are we going to have a debate or are we going to speak in riddles? This isn't Delphi you know.

What counter arguments? And in what way are they positive?

And the Cyprus problem is indeed 'Sisyphean'. We can either try and solve it or just piss around using long words, trying to sound clever.

As opposed to your words and prophecies, oh all wise, all seeing Oracle?

Has Jesus of Nazareth been on the telly in Cyprus? I thought orthodox Easter wasn't till next weekend. I'd be careful how you describe Jesus by the way. Many of the 'masses' you refer to believe he's the son of God, you know. We wouldn't want to offend anybody.

Of course we are. We are from the same main western branch.

But it seems slightly hypocritical of The Cypriot to designate what we have acquired from other, older cultures as "ours", yet objects to anybody else laying equal/similar claim to such matters, having made corresponding modifications. After all, the Romans went one step further and renamed Aphrodite as Venus ....

The Phoenicians are not "older" cultures than the Cypriots ! We have been on this island for more than 12 thousand years , every one else just followed , and just in case you ask where did we come from , easy , what came first the egg or the chicken .....
Of all the "visitors" to our beautiful island it seems the Greeks influenced us much more than any other "visitor" remembering of course that the greatest ever world civilization derived from the Greeks , the Ancient Greeks I may add.

I didn't say the Phoenicians were the oldest culture on Cyprus  .... but I am being patient with you, since you are the 'Oldest Phoeremer' on CF

I shall be 63 soon , and the greatest Hazopappou that ever lived , so there !

Yeah and he studied in Greece with all the Greek philosophers, after leaving a totally Hellenic Cyprus ... so that's why he is referred to as a Greek philosopher!

As for Aphrodite ... well ..... everybody wants her!

The arguments are dispersed all over this thread

And you're the only one who is trying to sound clever :? ... but what's wrong with that approach?

I have never been dictatorial with my views .... I'm not out to convince anyone, but I am confident common sense will prevail .... I just state it!

A lot of people, some from western countries, visit forums like these lurking and to learn more about the CYPRUS issue, not to be lectured about their own country.

And who is going to teach them about Cyprus you?

Well, it certainly aint you.

You have big problems. I didn't ask you to accept our GREEK ETHNOS. You are free to state whatever you like but do not try to convince everyone on this forum that you are in the majority.

If you can manage to obtain more than 5 supporters for your CYPRIOTNESS AND ANTI HELLENISM, you are doing well.
