Thank you for posting the slogan. You call that treachery, really I am laughing my head off. Are you saying that Cyprus has no hellenistic connection, culture, language
Christ all mighty, do you actually read the threads you post in? This one for example. From start to finish. It's clear what I've been saying.
Byron wrote: and that all Cypriots would denounce the word Hellenes.
How do you denounce a word. You can devalue a word: which is what you've done with the name Lord Byron.
Byron wrote: I think you are confusing the GREEK word ELLINIKI which means relating to HELLENIC and the English word GREEK a native of GREECE.
By your logic that would mean Cyprus is Turkish too. As it's also related to Turkic, due to centuries of Ottoman rule, and decades (still!) of military occupation by Turkey's army, and a sizeable population of Muslim extraction that looks to Turkey rather than Greece, or Europe for its protection (because of your stupid slogans!). It would also mean Cyprus is British too, as it's also related to Britishness, because of the sovereign bases, because of all the British influences during colonial rule, because of all the retired expats living in Paphos and Oroklini, and the drunkards in Ayia Napa.
And also Roman, Christian, Venetian, Frankish etc..... Where does it end?
But Cyprus is the sum of all of these things. Which makes it.... wait for it.... Cypriot.
Cyprus is CYPRIOT. My good Lord Byron, how's that for a slogan!
Byron wrote: By the way Lord Byron fought for the freedom of all HELLENES including Cypriot HELLENES
Well he can't have fought that hard for Cyprus then, 'cos the last time I looked there was a huge foreign flag on the mountainside. Maybe you should choose your British heroes a little more carefully. Try Robin Cook. He's a Brit who's done a lot more for the cause of liberty in Cyprus than Lord Byron.
Byron wrote: and in those circumstances he would have been proud to have said " H KYPROS EINAI ELLINIKI" . If not why did he volunteer to the cause for freedom ?
The noble Lord Byron fought and indeed gave his life for the liberty of Greece and I respect him immensely for that. But if he were alive today, I guarantee you, his idealism, his vision and his intelligence would have prevented him from using a slogan like yours.
