Even vegetables grown in Cyprus such as potatoes , okra tomatoes etc are described as Cyprus potatoes etc etc, it seems to me that Cypriots who have brains ought to use them they may discover that being a Cypriot primarily isn't such a bad idea . Those that see Turkey or Greece as their natural motherlands have a perfectly good excuse to shove off and join their motherlands , in the meantime as Cypriots can get on in fumigating our history books !!

Cypriot in Cyprus, just cites ur place of birth or indicates that u r a descendant of a Cyprus born woman or man.

In my opinion, being a Cypriot in Cyprus is not that easy.

You may well be right. I have the advantage of living in London.

insan wrote: Because various reasons, respectively; vast majority of 2 communities -culturally, socially, economically, linguistically- feel themselves closer to the members of their own ethnic group or national group. This feeling naturally developed throughout our troublesome, common history in perfect correlation of local, national and universal events and developments.

I appreciate this.

insan wrote: When a GC leader talks abt national interests, means the national interests of Hellenes and when a TC leader talks abt the national interests, means the national interests of Turks. This type of Cypriots constitute overwhelming majority of Cypriots. This is a fact.

You may well be right.

insan wrote: There r many events happened in the past and even in near past which prove us when it comes to national interests of an ethnic community of Cyprus; even opposite ideological groups of one ethnic group can join forces just to defeat the other ethnic group and it's suporter(s). In such cases the weaker ethnic group is doomed to obbey the rule of stronger community. Is it fair?

No. It's not fair if that is what happens.

It was clear in above statement what I meant. U claimed that there's an overseas occupying soldier for every three to four citizens in North and I told u had there been 17.000 TC NG and 60-70 thousands of TC reservists; there would have been just 650 Turkish troops in North just like GCs have 2000-2500 ELDYK and Greek officers in South. In such a case would there be still an "occupation army" in North?

It's here you lose me. Sorry, insan. I'm not up to speed with troop numbers post-1960, pre-1974, or post Annan Plan. The above is not where we're at, at present. There are 40,000 overseas troops in the north. Yes?

insan wrote:
Moreover, u skip all the facts regarding the strong reasons behind the population exchange under the then circumstances. If u claim that there wasn't strong reasons for TC-Turkish side for population exchange and if u claim that the then problems could be solved without exchanging populations into 2 zones, plz tell me abt ur counter arguements.

insan, I'm really not sure where we're going with this.

insan wrote:
For me, our past just constitutes the source of knowledge to shape our common or seperate future. I and vast majority of TCs have always been ready to move forward with fresh steps based on the experiences of the past and realities of today.

I hate this term 'realities of today'. It's what Turkey's generals always say. The realities of today also includes Cyprus, as a whole, being a full member of the EU. With all the associated rights and responsibilities.

insan wrote: Moving forward does not mean we will accept minority status in Cyprus but sure it would be the greatest step forward according to ur "osmosis" policy based on ur own national ineterests. It was the biggest dream of ultra-nationalist TPapa and his backers.

insan, we're getting very bogged down in here. I'm not Christofias and you're not Talat. And you're giving me Talat's rehearsed arguments. And I'm not here representing Christofias or the position of the government of the republic.

insan wrote:
I consider u and ur alikes as the children of Akritas because u skip(or u have no knowledge) all the facts which led us to the current situation and keep defending ur one sided arguments that either TPap or Chris had/have pursued.

OK, fine. Thanks for responding anyway. But if I'm honest, I wish I hadn't asked.

Milti, it's not a matter of "motherlands". Plz put aside ur traditional and conventional mind set. Since the begining of British rule TCs were against Enosis and GC rule. There was neither Turkey nor Ataturk or Denktash or any gavvoloz around when TCs began to struggle against Enosis and GC rule. It could have been Russia or US giving a helping hand to us and today there could have been Russians or Americans giving military and financial support to us.

The fact is TCs have always been against Enosis and rule of GCs. They struggled against it and they r strongly decided to struuggle against it till the end. We will ask the help of any state including Turkey till we achieve our goal.

There’s not a doubt that Turkish Cypriots knew what they DIDN’T want, but did they ever know what they DID want? :?

What we wanted and what we want have always been clear. We want to have the ruling power as much as GCs have, either in a united Cyprus or in a seperate state.

Insan I'm certain you will agree the vast majority of citizens in the occupied part are settlers making the T/Cs a minority.
As part of Cyprus and as Cypriots first and foremost the T/C will be part of the majority. The trouble is that bloody flag unless you are surrounded by them you dont feel quite right. A very large percentage of T/Cs have cast away the notion of the flag and Turkey being their motherland , its time for you to do likewise.
