there was no cyprus in ancient times, cyprus was greek a part of a hellenic tribes jst like macedons, epirotes, spartans etc. and i like how u say aphrodite was not greek but was a cypriot-phoniecian wen cyprus never existed as a different tribe thats like asying leonidas was spartan not greek, pericles was an athenian not greek coome on think ppl. and plus u are all stupid ur fighting ova a chick that was fake and never existed i dont wat u will say but cypriotness has lots of foreign influences but also greek music, dancing dress all look and sound like island greek. so dont call us foreigners cause 80% of ur population is greek cypriot meaning centuries ago u wer greek maybe admixure but cannot deny ur hellenism. u are cypriots dont get me wrong with ur distinct culture but also a branch of hellenism.

Where does Miltiades say he has English blood? Do you understand English? Please read his 'biography 'again.

The evidence is all over the internet Deniz!

Have you heard him play the Bouzouki?

Sorry Deniz, but I would like to keep my lunch in my stomach....

Because I'm Cypriot, I don't shear sheep but cut their throat, then skin them, gut it and get the Souvla Barbecue off the diblokambino, and start cooking whilst listening to Kazantzidi (A Greek Singer)....

FINAL CALL for "The Cypriot"

You may join me for some lamb if you sign the Memorandum of Understanding.

I will accept Miltiades signature as Ombudsman only if he too signs a similar Memorandum of Understanding. No other clause is negotiable, although I will grant your kind request to consider yourself a "Cypriot" only..... :D

How double dare you to insinuate That I do not know Kazantzidis.

I come from a mixed village. You have had no pleasure.

He cant sing, thats another story.

Far too heavy and villagee Kazantzides for me , never once either played or sung any of his songs.
My favourite is and has always has been the Great Margaritis .
Not very well known is a terrific Bouzouki player from Thessaloniki , Triantafillos , for me he was the greatest improviser and taxim player that ever lived .Lost touch with him more than than 30 years ago , he got into the wrong company never got married and never had a comforting family behind him. He played the Rendezvous in Bayswater Road way back in the 60s and early to mid 70s . He was my Bouzouki teacher.
ps.Ought to add that Triantafillos was the only Bouzoukshi I ever met who played a five string Bouzouki !! The original Bouzouki as popularized by the incomparable Manolis Hiotis was of course a 3 string instrument , the modern day Bouzouki is a 4 string , double strings I ought to add .
Mine is broken , is more than 40 years old and still sings now and again but hasn't done so for many years now. The guitar is what I now enjoy playing every now and then for minutes , getting old and slow !! I promise to take one to the office so when Deniz next comes for coffee I can play "mustafa "or maybe Havana Killa !!

That will do nicely Milti. Perhaps a 'Gazelis' is worth a try. We could get Lurucadi in too.

Antreis, I have to respond to you. Have no doubt my friend. We Cypriots of Muslim Turkish descent are first and fore most Cypriots.
Cyprus is our homeland and we are proud to be a part of this ancient nation. The Greek, Maronite, Latin and Armenian Cypriots are our brothers; culturally we are all the same.

Sadly, Cypriots of Muslim / Turkish origin live under occupation. This was planned by greater powers and their agents, the TMT. It is not as easy as you may think to rebel. Yet we do rebel, often directly but mostly indirectly.

Many people in the occupied north are frightened of speaking out against the occupier, their bullying tactics, dormant paramilitaries and the dirty business that has symbolized what they call the TRNC. TRNC is as relevant to Turkish Cypriots as Eritrea is.

Living under military occupation is not easy. Many people become sycophants to the occupation regime in order to make their bread money. Survival forces people to do terrible things, such as becoming informants and spies against their own community. Trust and morale are thus low.

To ensure its grip of power, Turkey ensures that no less than 1/3 of Turkish Cypriots work in a civil service that relies exclusively on Turkish financial aid to survive - its a form of control. "We pay your bread money so we expect loyalty."

Still I have faith in my community because there are many brave Cypriots in the north with enough integrity to sink a ship who do speak up and this have to put up with a lot of grief. Some like Kutlu Adali have paid for speaking up with their life.

A very warm welcome from me too my dear compatriot . Hope your first post is the beginning of many.
I'm a Cypriot through and through , a G/C but massively first and foremost a Cypriot like you . I adore our motherland , our Cyprus , and I do know that the resilience of our people will succumb the restrains and retributions of foreign bodies and we will , sooner or later , rise as the nation of Cypriots.

Yes, welcome Omer mate/matess and thanks for the reminder to us all that many of our northern brothers and sisters have the moral strength and courage to resist the Oppresive Occupation.
