SOYER Accuses DENKTAS and EROGLU, calls prosecutor to duty!

Hilarious,
SOYER (CTP) calls public prosecutor to duty, in order to investigate DENKTAS and EROGLU's (UBP) to possible links to Ergenekon case in Turkey, just around a week before elections.

How convenient! He either has no idea, or he's purely demented - he just guaranteed a victory for Eroglu...

World Bulletin / News Desk

Turkish Cyprus PM Soyer asked for the investigation of former president Denktas and PM Eroglu within Ergenekon probe.

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer requested an investigation to be done for the allegations against TRNC's first President Rauf Denktas and the former prime minister and the main opposition National Unity Party's Leader Dervis Eroglu in Ergenekon investigation's indictment, which mentions the two.

Official request

TRNC Prime Ministry Press and Public Relations Directorate made the written statement on the subject as the following:

"There is an investigation in Turkey known by 'Ergenekon.' As is known, the indictment was prepared against the suspects in this investigation as a result of Republic of Turkey's Criminal Procedure Act," the statement said.

"Some part in this indictment appeared in our press and a section of the indictment makes claims about our National Union Party chairman Mr. Dervis Eroglu and former President Rauf Denktas."

"Because of the seriousness of these claims and the public interest requires that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, in accordance with statutory legislation, should investigate this claims."

"In this context, Mr. Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer, made the request of an official investigation from the State Law Department today, in accordance with Cyprus law above-cited allegations," the statement added.

An alleged criminal network that came to be known as "Ergenekon" was revealed after police seized 27 grenades, TNT explosives and fuses in a shanty house in Istanbul on June 12, 2007 and Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into weapons. Police waged operations in several provinces and detained a number of people, including retired senior army officers, journalists and businessmen, for their alleged involvement in the network.

Turkey’s Ergenekon investigation, which has shook Turkey from head to toe, has also raised widespread speculation in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Former TRNC President Rauf Denktas held a press conference today in response to allegations brought against him.

The press conference came after Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer ordered a probe into allegations that there were links between the TRNC and the ‘Ergenekon’ organization.

The former President, Rauf Denktas was accused of being involved in the Ergenekon case, a high profile trial of a shadowy Turkish ultra-nationalist organization dubbed Ergenekon.

The case which has sent the arrest of dozens of people in an investigation into an alleged covert, nationalist cabal of military officers, intelligence agents and policemen acting outside the judicial and political parameters of the state.

They are accused of planning a military coup to overthrow the Turkish government by force.

The accusation to the former President Rauf Denktas came after a 22-page report was delivered to the TRNC from Turkey which covers the ‘Cyprus leg’ of the Ergenekon case.

Mr Denktas responded to allegations by implying that the report has been brought to the TRNC authorities on purpose, at a time which coincided with the next week’s early elections.

He said the report was brought by opponents who wanted to spread the issue of Ergenekon into the TRNC.

Denktas reminded that Prime Minister Soyer earlier told him that he had been victimized according to this report.

`In that report, there is no allegation brought against me regarding the Ergenekon case` Denktas stressed.

The former President stated that he made a phone conversation with President Mehmet Ali Talat on the issue yesterday during which Mr Talat expressed his distress over the developments.

Denktas said President Talat visited him today before the press conference to express his support.

On the Cyprus problem, Mr. Denktas reiterated his commitment towards the protection of the TRNC.

`We will not be deceived by any tricky initiative which envisages a settlement on the basis of a unitary state` Denktas went on saying.

Denktas said that the supported a two-state solution, one that would maintain current ties with Turkey as well as the Turco-Greek balance.

I disagree. The CTP is trying to taint the UBP by associating it with Ergenekon. To judge by today's online version of Yeni Düzen, they are milking this association for all it is worth. The word "Ergenekon" appears in virtually every headline. This tactic could just enable them to snatch a final hour victory.

`LEGAL ACTION WILL BE TAKEN IF PM SOYER DOES NOT APOLOGIZE`

The Cyprus leg of Turkey’s controversial Ergenekon case mounts as further reactions come in.

The main opposition National Unity Party has issued a written statement on the developments as the UBP Leader Dervis Eroglu’s name is also included in the statement of allegations.

The UBP wants Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer, who ordered the investigation of the case by the Attorney-General, to apologize from the Party and its Leader.

UBP’s official lawyer Aygun Doratli sent a letter to the Prime Minister today, warning him of legal action to be taken against him if he doesn’t make an apology.

Legal action is also going to be taken the Lawyer says, for media institutions publishing the bill of indictment.

The UBP said the accusations were not based on any evidence.

ATTORNEY GENERAL HAS BEEN GIVEN DOCUMENTS RELATING TO ERGENEKON CASE

Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer has made it to the spotlight once again by holding a press conference to announce that he has handed over documents he received on the famous Ergenekon case to the Attorney General office.

He said he wanted to avoid any speculations being made on the issue and that’s why he has handed over the papers ASAP.

Prime Minister Ferdi Sabbit Soyer held a press conference today to explain his reasons for handing over valuable documentation to the Attorney Generals office.

‘The Ergenekon case is a crime that has been committed within the Turkish state itself and we understand that the documentation that is in question exists in the TRNC and has emerged in the press. There are great allegations being made against Turkish Cypriot democracy,’ said Prime Minister Soyer.

Noting that he did not want any speculations being made on the issue, the Prime Minister said ‘I have handed over the documentation to the Attorney Generals office and from now on the subject will be handled on an official level’.

Explaining that no request had been made from Turkish officials on the matter, the Prime Minster said we don’t want the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus democracy to become institutionalized we want it to develop.

‘If the Attorney General’s office wants more documentation after it has carried out the necessary investigation, then contact will be made with Turkish officials’, he added.
