INITIATIVES OUTSIDE THE NEGOTIATIONS ROOM WILL REMAIN BARREN

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

INITIATIVES OUTSIDE THE NEGOTIATIONS ROOM WILL REMAIN BARREN

Postby halil » Tue Apr 07, 2009 1:27 pm

The Turkish Cypriot side is uncomfortable with the Greek Cypriot side’s initiatives and statements it makes outside the negotiation room.

Deputy Prime Minister- Foreign Minister has recently reacted to the Greek Cypriot Leader Demetris Christofias’ statement on the issue of Maras.

Mr Christofias was quoted as claiming that Maras was a region under ‘invasion’ and promising his people to bring a solution to this problem through initiatives to be taken away from the negotiations table.
`However any initiative Mr Christofias’ takes on this will remain barren` the Foreign Minister stressed.

`If we are to speak of an ‘invasion’, then we can speak of the Greek Cypriot invasion of the 1960’s Republic of Cyprus in 1963 by force of arms` Avci went on saying.

Avci said Maras is a TRNC land and is completely under the TRNC sovereignty.

`The issue of Maras will only be resolved through negotiations` he stressed.

In a written statement, Avci called on the Greek Cypriot Leader to give up with such bootless initiatives and make his best to help reaching to a sustainable and functionable settlement in Cyprus, without wasting time.

Christofias is invited to seriously negotiate with the Turkish Cypriot side- who is the equal partner of the Greek Cypriot side, Avci said.

He stated that the Greek Cypriot Administration is mistaken when it expects to resolve the negotiation issues in its own favor by trying to create pressure over the TRNC and Turkey outside the negotiations.

The Foreign Minister warned that bringing the negotiation issues onto the EU basis or any other international platform will hamper the progress of Cyprus full-fledged negotiations.

Hallil, he is right. G/cs came by warships from Mongolia in 1963 , invated Cyprus and today the pure T/cs negotiating with the G/cs shelters remained in the island after above invasion.

Famagusta, it's the part that the Turks are looking after by stopping evil GCs from living in their homes and on their land. It's being held as a bargaining chip, you know, like a hostage...

There is a difference in who privately owns the land and which state will have jurisdiction of the land, that’s all. It was always going to be given to the GCs in the bargaining for land in the north, our poor settlers need some land.

I seem to remember talking about peace talks 20 years ago being accused of living in dreamland by probaply the same couple of TCs. About the same time I named my son Barish (Peace). I am used to going against the trend, I can defend myself, don't worry about me.
