The Extinct Choirokitian Culture.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

And yet you call yourself Turkish Cypriot!

Why should Cypriots give up their birthright to an ancient civilisation that they played a vital role in developing? Cypriots are no different to the Cretans, Spartans, Athenians, and Mycenaeans.

It is widely blieved that Cypriots may have even developed the Ancient Greek scripts and this is the very basis of Hellenism.

Bravo. When you will call yourselves Cypriot and not Hellenes, then we shall see. Its the only way we can differentiate ourselves from the Hellenophiles.

You are the one that has made a MYTHOLOGICAL claim that Cyprus is not Hellenic. You PROVE IT or SHUT IT!

The only claim I make is that Cyprus is Hellenic. And the proof is all around you and on this forum and therefore I don't need to do anything.

The ONUS is on you to prove that Cyprus is not Hellenic......

How do you go about proving that at around 1200BC, a bunch of people from Greece came and settled in Cyprus?

How do you go about proving that around 1600BC, a bunch of people from Greece did not come and settle in Cyprus. Did the Cypriot adoption of the Hellenic Gods happen by watching some Athenian or Spartan movies on telly?

Did they find a plaque with a list of their names?

Did you find a plague that lists the names of any Choirokitians if they were not extinct during the period of Greek migration?

Did they find an inscription on a stone that read… “In memory of the hundreds of Greeks that came to stay and blessed us with their presence in 1200BC!” ?

Or did they find Greek pots and pans and ASSUMED that they had settled here? Ha? A bit like the Cypriot bracelets and copper exported to them maybe eh? (Only for some funny reason our products didn't go there with an attached "obligatory inheritance" label!)

Why didn't they clearly label their products with something like…

Warning: Anyone using this pot is condemned to also inherit the “Hellenic” identity!

They did label their products. The architecture at Kourion and Salamina is distinctly Greek.

Or should we just hush and accept the “Hellenic” version of events because it makes them look good? And I as a Cypriot should strive for some bizarre reason to help them look good… ???

People like you DO make the Greeks look good...Image

You don't see the Greeks blame Cypriots for the Istanbul progrom in September 1955.

But your antics are destructive to the core and as long as there is a Paphiti, you won't get away with it. I will be rubbing your face in the dirt for a long time to come GR! 8)

Earliest periods » Greek immigration

The immigration of settlers from Greece, which had begun at least by 1200, led to the foundation of Greek kingdoms covering most of the island, and, since the start of the 1st millennium bc, the Greek language has been predominant in Cyprus; the fact that the dialectal form in which it first appears is known as Arcado-Cypriot confirms traditions of the Peloponnesian origin—and specifically of the Arcadian origin—of the immigrants. They founded new cities, which became the capitals of six ancient Greek kingdoms on Cyprus: Curium (Greek: Kourion), Paphos, Marion, Soli (Greek: Soloi), Lapithos, and Salamis. About 800 bc a Phoenician colony was founded at Citium (Greek: Kition), near modern Larnaca, as a dependency of the mother city, Tyre. A seventh kingdom, Amathus, remained for some time under the control of the earlier indigenous inhabitants; the language used there was called Eteo-Cypriot (“True Cypriot”) by the Greeks. Amathus became active politically, especially in external trade relations. Spectacular chariot burials of the royal family of Salamis—which closely match descriptions found in the Homeric poems, suggesting inspiration by them—are evidence of an advancing civilization in the late Iron Age.

The interrelations of Minoan.Mycenaean culture with Syria/Palesine should not be underrated. The palace of Mari on the Euphrates is clearly similar to the palace at Knossos in the iconography of its frescos, which date from about 1800BC. The goddess is presenting royal insignia. In excavations being conducted at Qatna, Syria, since 2002, Minoan frescos are turning up too. A linear writing system appears at Byblos, in Syria, hence in Crete and Greece and, with three further forms, in Cyprus. Ugarithad close contacts with Cyprus.

Distinct Mycenaean immigration reached Cyprus in 1200BC. One of the cities continuously inhabited since then is Paphos; it contains the sanctuary of Aphrodite, called "Wanassa" (the "Queen") in perfect Mycenaean language

ANCIENT EPIC by John Miles Foley

As you can see, there is evidence that the Mycenaeans travelled as far as Syria.

Also the Mycenaean inscriptions on the Paphos Sanctuary of Aprodite are interesting..... :D

I accept historical records that indicate the arrival of the Mycenaeans at around 1200 bc , what I ponder over is who were those Cypriots that inhabited the island for some 8600 years before the Mycenaeans arrived !! Most certainly they were the true Cypriots so some of us must have evolved from those early natives.
