what is the meaning of Dawah ?

don't u know that religious educations can be done under the control of TRNC minister of education in Northern part of the island .

or such a activities without knowledge of government is forbidden.

Question:

what is the meaning of Dawah ?

Answer:

Dawah means Invitation. In Islamic terminology, Dawah means inviting people to Islam (Peace acquired by submitting will to God)

Is this the root of the Turkish word 'davet', then? I think there are cases where Arabic has dropped a final 't' that used to exist, whereas this has been retained in the Turkish loan word. Is this one such case? Maybe Deniz can assist.
That being so, what does the Turkish word 'dava' (also a loan word from Arabic) derive from?

You are right Tim. Dawa, in this case is invitation. If further sylables are added, the 't' will remain.

Similar to the word, 'Hurriyet' & 'Milliyet', in Turkish. In Arabic it is 'hurriya' or 'Milliya'. Turks have kept the 't' at the end. If need be, grammatically additional sylables will retain the 't'letter in the Arabic.

It also appears that the plural of the Arabic word 'da`wah' is 'du`ah', presumbly the root of the Turkish word 'dua'. This has certainly been a very productive root in terms of the number of separate Turkish words it has generated.

We have 3 stages of our Existence. First before coming to this world, second in this world where we are now and third after we die which will be forever. Some People simply reject what they can’t see or they cannot remember. If God has given us unlimited memory or unlimited site where will be the test? Therefore I assure you that this life is the just a test and I give you Dawah to follow the right path by submitting your will to the will of our Creator (God). I am enjoying my life by submitting my will to the will of God.

Take my advice, I sense that the people behind this thread are the same ones that kept appearing under different names in the following old thread:

If you look at the way the argument there developed, you will see that rational arguments are lost on them. Your time is more valuable than that.

Are you talking about du'a as in 'prayer'. Certainly chatting like this brings forth more knowledge. I never even considered that. Well spotted Tim. Next time I am in Cyprus...................I might even seek you out  but that depends if you wish to be found.

What I have learnt in Arabic is that roots of all words are 'fi'il'/'verbs. They describe actions. If one takes the vowels h+s+n and add the numerous consonants or the 'signs', we end up with a plethora of words.

Husnu

Hasan/Hasane

Muhsin

Ahsan

Ihsan

and many more have the root in 'to make beautiful.

Same with d+w+a

we have

Du'a

Dava/davaci (legal, to prosecute)

Dawa (as mentioned above 'goal', all have the same root.

Arabic is a fascinating language to learn, but difficult at the same time. It does elp understanding Turkish too.(as most words are derived from the Arabic.

According to this source that I have recently found for Turkish etymology

http://www.nisanyansozluk.com/search.asp?w=dua&x=17&y=8

'du'ah' first meant 'call for help', and so by extention a 'call for help from God' and thus 'prayer'.

There are plenty of pure Turkish words in the language as well, though.

Good source. Have you noticed the Armenian connection? They were always the cultured ones. Kafenes should have a look too.

Thanks for that Tim.

I must admit that I have never heard of Sevan Nişanyan before, but he seems to be quite a colourful character if the following article is anything to go by:

http://www.nisanyan.com/NYT/article.htm

I discovered in another source that when he was in prison, depite being an Armenian Christian, his knowledge of Arabic and the Quran is so good that he ended up teaching a Quran course to other inmates, earning him the nickname of "gavur hoca"!
