Obama visit to Turkey

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Pax » Mon Apr 06, 2009 6:48 pm

The full text of Obama's speech is here : http://www.hurriyet.com.tr/english/domestic/11376661.asp?gid=244

This is what he said about Cyprus :

"Advancing peace also includes the dispute that persists in the eastern Mediterranean. Here, there is cause for hope. The two Cypriot leaders have an opportunity through their commitment to negotiations under the United Nations Good Offices Mission. The United States is willing to offer all the help sought by the parties as they work toward a just and lasting settlement that reunifies Cyprus into a bizonal and bicommunal federation."

Where are all those people that predicted doom and gloom for USA Turkey relations??? Pre election promises always lose momentum when elected to office and the reality of where your priorities should be. Whens the next visit to Russia by the GC leader?

Obama is hugely diplomatic! ... It seems he knows how to string the Turks along ... to get the most out of them ... and eventually offer them the least  ... whilst ensuring they fully understand their obligations to both Greece and Cyprus.

Way to go, Obama! :D

My Beloved Fellow Fighters in the Struggle for National Liberation, My Fellow Seekers for Justice in CY...

We've seen so many Presidents from that so powerful country come and go. All of them have come with sweet promise and pre-election hopes that in reality lead to places many of us, except the fools amongst us, would not want to go.

The response of those who know that one day we will celebrate Real Liberation in a Free Morphou, in a Free Lapithos, in a Free Kyrenia, in a Free Famagusta and in a Free Lourijina is to show these basaaatrd Most Powerful Men in The World our great achievements over the past 35 years when our Noble Cause has been tested at the Courts of the World and in Europe and to continue to show these Plonkish Presidents the power of Cy Persistence and Perseverance....

For 35 years these oh so powerful plonkers have been like nothing when set against the greatest of the CY virtues that are Resilience and Patience.

...and we continue to wave the Kochans to The Occupied North in their dark faces and there isn't a thing they can do to take them away from us.

(Now add to that a little of the Unity and National Spirit of the mid to late fifties :D )

(Edit - Hi O)

Bloody cheek, what gives Obama the right to decide the future of Cypriots. The same old story - outsiders interfering in Cyprus. Obama should be banging heads together not selling Cyprus down the river.

There are those who think that the Greek Cypriots sold peace and reconciliation down the river when the GC's rejected the Annnan Plan. ..

And there maybe people in the State Department who are glad GCs rejected the Annan Plan and its unforgiveable grants of new territory and new power to the British. The Yanks are not as stupid or as naive as some people like to think.

In the speech of Obama please not the keyword "reunite". In other words telling the Turks to forget any idea of annexation or permanent presence on the island. Some things are not allowed even for close allies.

The funny thing is that Turks see the word reunite and think that to do so involves creating 2 separate countries as far as possible.

It's not funny. One world government has nothing to do with internal affairs of countries as long the policies of local governments don't contradict with universal policies of bosses of the one world government. It has nothing to do with demanding 2 sperate states or accepting to be a minority under the rule of our rivals GCs.
