I saw an olive tree in the courtyard which I instantly could see was of a very great age. On speaking to the cafe owner he confirmed it was in the region of 500 years old!

We have one in Polis which is ~ 750 years old. So craggy, gnarled and knotted; a wondrous work of nature ... and to think these trees knew Cyprus before the Otto -Turks.

(Oh to hear you recite the above in RP, dear bill c  )

Almost as old you then !!

Hopefully kurie Constantinou's complaint will have a positive outcome - so beware!
All too often I see people out and about hacking away at trees with their chainsaws gathering in their winter firewood! You cannot tell me that they all steer clear of the protected species either! :(

Once killed they are forever gone ... sometimes hundreds of years ... snuffed in a moment.
I speak as one who witnessed the unproven, but quite obviously deliberate, killing of an 150 year old Tulip tree with a preservation order (in UK) ... but "ignored" by the house-owner who dug deep for a garage until the tree's roots were severed, enough, that the poor thing died a slow lingering death over the space of a year. The owner got away scot-free because, I guess, trees can't speak for themselves, nor do they show the signs of abuse until it is way too late!

I am going to start taking my camera with me when out walking; I am sure I will capture some 'rogues' destroying precious trees. :(
Why is it that some people seem hellbent in spoiling the environment and in doing so chipping away the planet for future generations?

I have never set foot in your Village of the Damned! Indeed, it's the only time I have been known to speed up to 45Km/h when necessity calls for me to circumnavigate its environs!
And as for my accent ... Received Pronunciation, doncha know!

Were you the voice of the 'Speaking Clock'? Pip, pip etc!
