Actually ... it is the only place you regularly see working donkeys being led home, weighed down with bunches of twigs, sticks and branches .... Now it all makes sense .... Removing the evidence!

As one who comes from Stroumbi The Great may I express my disdain at actions carried out by any resident of the village that have as a result the destruction of a tree and more so an oak tree that is protected by law.
The fact that the alleged offender is an Englishman is utterly irrelevant.
The English that moved to Stroumbi the Great some years back brought with them many benefits not least the tremendous increase of property and land , an increase that has benefited most if not all villages including my own immediate family. Their contribution to animal welfare has been marvelous , their natural love of the environment has greatly enhanced the general look of the village and encouraged the villagers to contribute towards making the village a well ordered , clean and "modern".
To the best of my knowledge the villagers enjoy an excellent relationship with the Brits , perhaps one reason the son of the Mouxtari requested the Police take no action. The fact that one tree has been cut down it does not alter the excellent rapport that exists between the locals and the Brits .

I never said anything about the English.

The man is a Brit ... Much like you! I immediately wondered why you have been so "quiet" of late

He did say that he was down and out from his flu/cold and so he would have needed the fire wood.

Speakng of trees in Stroumbi, we stopped off there at a cafe/peripteron on the main road on the way to the Akamas last Summer. I saw an olive tree in the courtyard which I instantly could see was of a very great age. On speaking to the cafe owner he confirmed it was in the region of 500 years old!
