TRNC PRESIDENT TALAT MET WITH UN SG BAN IN PARIS TO DISCUSS THE CYPRUS ISSUE
President Mehmet Ali Talat has demanded a more active role from the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon in the Cyprus negotiations process.
The President came together with the UN Secretary-General in Paris this afternoon to discuss the latest developments concerning the Cyprus issue.
The meeting lasted for nearly an hour.
Evaluating the meeting to the press later, Talat said he presented the Turkish Cypriot views to Mr Ban over the ongoing negotiations process, aiming to bring a lasting political settlement in Cyprus.
He said they also discussed the role of the UN Secretary-General within the negotiations process.
`Mr Ban in response told me that the Greek Cypriot Administration wants a solution in Cyprus but does not want any international intervention into the process` the President stated.
Adding that Ban Ki-Moon is closely following up with the Cyprus developments, President Talat said the UN Secretary-General promised him to provide help in removing the international isolation- which Turkish Cypriots are still suffering from despite of earlier international calls for its lifting.
President Mehmet Ali Talat later moved on with his Paris contacts with a meeting with the former French Prime Minister Michel Rocard.
President and his delegation will return to the TRNC tomorrow night.
