Freelanders are the worst cars in the history of carmaking... had one for 2 years, spent 5K CYP fixing it. TD4 could be slightly better but apart from the engine there are so many things to go wrong... This car worth 4K Max, i sold mine with full leather interior for 5K Euros 2 years ago. And even after it was checked by mechanic who assured the buyer that its in good condition 2 months after the guy bought it off me he had to change whole transmission and 6 months later whole engine. I was even on a Freelander forum and we had a "Breakdowns" ratings under our avatar (just like star rating on this forum).

I am so sorry to hear of your bad experience with the freelander. Like everything in life people can go through good experiences and bad. This car has been reliable to our family, so much that we bought it over from the uk. Due to the extention of our family we are looking for a bigger car.....or we would be keeping it

Sorry Sexybeast, but having a pre 2003 Freelander trouble free is a fairytale... you must be lying. I've seen batches of Freelanders piling up next to my mechanic's garage. Here is the list of my faults in 2 years of ownership.

Total Repair cost 5000CYP

Fuel Pump
Starter
Crankshaft Sensor
Cooling Pump
Wiper Motor
Traction Sensor
Fuel Line
Front glass, it cracked due to flexing chassis.
Flexing Chassis, had to weld the frame to reinforce it.
Gear Box
Transfer Box
Various Engine Sensors (very expensive)
Clutch, 2 times
Throttle
Rear Window Motor
Flywheel
Engine Mounts
Differential

Thats all i could remember for now, the longest my car survived was 2 months of driving.

A friend of mine had a 2004 TD4 freelander and he had a batch of his problems aswell, Turbo, Sensors, Clutch and the list goes.

Like you did to sell yours? ;) You were lucky that the guy you sold it to didn't have your can burned after he found out that you sold him a crap car that broke down after just 2 months!! I know I would be pissed if that happened to me :P

Did i lie to sell mine? No, the price was 5000Eur. It was worth that ammount. I also asked the guy to take it to his mechanic as i dont want any claims after. He did and his mechanic loved it (probably an idiot). I told him i changed gearbox and all sensors, etc. That even convinced them to buy it even more. I had full leather interior, armrest, Clarion CD/Mp3/Amp, color coded bumpers, lamp guards, roofrails, almost new tires.

I met him couple of times he told me he had changed an engine and transmission but he didnt do any claims or tried to blame me.

Perhaps the list of faults is associated with crap driving :?:
