Would a 2 state solution suit Turkey?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Would a 2 state solution suit Turkey?

Postby boomerang » Thu Apr 02, 2009 11:09 pm

Personally I think not...

They never talked about a 2 state solution...Independant that is...

They always talked about a 2 state confederation...

The way I look at it, if they wanted a 2 state indepandant, read 2 countries, solution they woukd have been discussing it long ago and they would have been happy with 20% of Cyprus...or any percentage figure...

What they want is to control north Cyprus. If they really believed the bullshit that they say then they would let the TCs run the occupied area. All the talk about the "trnc" is cover up to Turkey controlling occupied Cyprus. And if they ever achieved partition then I can tell you that within a few years they would make a referendum there and have them vote for making north Cyprus a province of Turkey.

They got this now Sotos...unless you think the tcs have any real say in anything...

What they want is total control if Cyprus through some bullshit confedaration...this is the aim..

Ofcource if the turks where to come out of the dark ages they would have had it by now, through the same way as the Japs and the Germans, through shear economics...

They officially talked about it in 1965. They insuniated it at every occasion(e.g; declaration of TRNC), following a frustration stemed from Hellenic ruling class; e.g majority rule insistence, PKK-Hellene coloboration, anti-Turkish stance of diaspora Hellenes, Osmosis policy of Hellens via EU.

They mostly talk abt confederation because they consider confederation more feasible when taken into account that most of the Hellenes r against 2 seperate states. Moreover, globalization requires Hellenes and Turks to reconcile, colloborate in the interests of western alliance. 2 seperate states might cause new problems between Hellenes and Turks and negatively affect the relations in western alliance.

As for the percentage of land we would demand in case of an agreed partition; I guess it would be no less than 25%-27%.

They want to control Cyprus as much Hellenes want to control Cyprus. The solution is to grant equal legislative and judicial power for them. TCs run TRNC, there's no doubt but when it comes to international relations, we have to communicate over Turkey due to unrecognized status of TRNC. Furthermore, even a jackass needed a post to be tied to and in our case it is Turkey.

They will stop at nothing but complete control of the whole island ... which they hoped to attain via the Annan Plan. That being scuppered, they are now dragging their feet until they find another way.

Why the EU doesn't stop them sooner rather than later, I suppose we shall find out eventually. But stopped from any influence, in any part of Cyprus is coming to them .... I guess the EU have good reasons for (in turn) stringing Turkey along, for just a bit longer.

Turkey getting weaker and EU getting stronger, most likely ..... and a shift in power etc.
