Well I see freddie's on it.

Billosdaki, thgaole mavre, lamron nase gapsi.

You appear in the dark like mushroom, feed us bullshit and disappear. April fool indeed. The two subjects are very related, infact one led to the other. Did you miss the irony of it, should I explain it to you, old boy?
But really I feel that political explenations should come from DT. It carries more weight and all that.

Yes but what benefits have the illegal settlers brought to the tnct?

"Settlers" mainly contributed to TFSoC and TRNC economy in agricaltural and construction fields. They also provided a consuming population to TCs.

"Settlers" contributed to some GC refugees by repairing and keeping their adobe houses stable. Besides, they arbored thousands of olive oil, citrus and grape trees on GC land and kept arable GC land viable.

I think you overestimate how many TCs have married these settlers ... who after all prefer to marry their cousins!

"Despite a higher risk of birth defects, marriages and eventual offspring from unions between nephews and nieces will not be banned in the Netherlands." Why not? "Marriages between cousins are particularly common in Turkish and Moroccan communities and [Health Minister Hans] Hoogervorst said a ban would be 'disproportionate' and impossible to enforce." This from Expatica News, with thanks to seafarious.

Hoogervorst "said he considered the risks of birth defects would be overshadowed by the violation of the personal freedom of choice if he banned marriages between first cousins. . . .

Mutation frequency of Familial Mediterranean Fever and evidence for a high carrier rate in the Turkish population

Abstract

Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) is a recessive disorder characterised by episodes of fever and neutrophil-mediated serozal inflammation. The FMF gene (MEFV) was recently identified and four common mutations characterised. The aim of this study was to determine the carrier rate in the Turkish population and the mutation frequency in the clinically diagnosed FMF patients. We found a high frequency of carriers in the healthy Turkish population (20%). The distribution of the five most common MEFV mutations among healthy individuals (M694V 3%, M680I 5%, V726A 2%, M694I 0% and E148Q 12%) was significantly different (P<0.005) from that found in patients (M694V 51.55%, M680I 9.22%, V726A 2.88%, M694I 0.44% and E148Q 3.55%). Yet another slap in the face from Insan If the GC refugees were allowed they would quite happily do this themselves

Well the only positive thing I can think of is cheap labour. Which I would consider as an disadvantage to the many unemployed TC's trying to find a descent paid job.

Yet another unrealistic thought from Richard The Lion Heart.

Richard.

- It is a fact that GC exerted to make TC community a minority.

- It is a fact that TCs resisted not to be a minority.

- It is a fact that during the inter-communal talks between 1967-74, TC life suspended for 11 years under a fear of unknown future. 11 years wasted just for nothing but harmed TC development in great extend.

- It is a fact that had Turkey not intervened Sampson would have accepted political equality of TC community.

- It is a fact that Turkey intervened and faced with an unexpected, fierce Hellenic confrontation.

- It is a fact that despite 2 successive, military operation by Turkish intervention forces towards overpowering the Enosist Hellenic forces; in August, irregulars of EOKA-B were still active and threatening withg a guerilla warfare.

- It is a fact that under the then hostile circumstances and crown all while irregulars of EOKA-B were still active; exchange of populations was inevitable.

- It is a fact that, the adobe houses and arable land of GC refugees should have been kept stable and viable in a way contributing TC economy. Had TC administration been a recognized entity, be sure of that TC who emigrated would have returned to Cyprus to re-settle instead of Turkish "settlers".

Simple as that!

Right, like i said, the birth of Insan. 45,000 out of the original 100,000 (or so) TCs? It explains why some TCs in here act more Turkish than a Turk from Turkey. So much for forging that unique Cypriot identity that some GCs in this forum dream of. Goes to show that the "TRNC" is nothing more then a Turkish province. This is a fact, lets not kid our selves.

Before anyone takes issue with my comment....i would like to say that I do not mean to offend anyone....Uhh but do try and see it from my perspective. For example, how would some of you react to half of the GCs marrying mainland Greeks?

Well why would they do that? duh, to fight thallasemia?

In the north, half the homes display proudly the Turkish flag and in the south there is talk of being Cypriot Cypriots so that we can differentiate between us and the Turkish Cypriots. So funny. Sad but funny.

We may as well rub some more salt in the wound. With most of the TC construction workers in the south being paid less for the same work than their GC counterparts with no contribution for national insurance, who would build the houses in the TRNC if it wasn't for the Turkish construction workers?
