To VP:
I didn't watch this latest Eurovision, however, if Patricia Kaas performed there, that would be kind of unfair competition as she was already a well known singer long before Eurovision. Like with her hit song "Les Hommes Qui Passent". And methinks that Abba also was well known before they appeared in Eurovision. My view ViewPoint , is that Eurovision has produced a meager amount of long-lasting musicians, save for a few out of hundreds who competed over all these years.
What do you think is the percentage of first-time Eurovision performers who later made it as professionals ? How do 1990s and 2000s compare against 1960-70s in this respect ?
To Oracle:
What was the date of that song ? How well Lulu compares against France Gall, Toto Cutugno, Cliff, Abba and others? So, giving just one or two Youtube links does it help confirming that she has survived the test of time ?
To Bill Cobbet:
Sorry, I couldn't listen Sandie from your link because each time I click on, an error occurs due to some embedding problem.
To GR:
Do you play air-oboe with the air supply coming from the upper part or lower end of your anatomy? If your answer is the second, then you really deserve a credit for being an unconventional performer.

Cem originally countries sent unknowns and many are still in the music business either locally or internationally today. They do not all have to be as big as Celine Dion or Abba, these are one in a million acts. What we have been seeing over the past years is countries wanting to win the contest are sending made to measure contestents, such as Sakis Rouvas this was his second attempt, Chiria from Malta it was her 3rd attempt. Believe it or not there are countries which are fanatical about the Eurovision song contest....it attracts over 350+ million viewers worldwide and is a musical fusion of this year 42 countries.

I like variety and music tastes vary accross Europe, the fact that from 60s 70s to the 90s 00s all countries can now sing in English rather than their own tongue has levelled out the playing field and it has now become more show orientated than vocals just look at an extreme example like Lordi group a few years back.
