Two sides have reached to a level of rapprochement on EU

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Two sides have reached to a level of rapprochement on EU

Postby halil » Tue Mar 31, 2009 3:24 pm

TRNC President Mehmet Ali Talat’s Special Representative for Negotiations and UN Affairs Ozdil Nami has confirmed that the two sides have reached to a level of rapprochement on EU matters- which is the third chapter of full-fledged talks.

Nami’s statement came ahead of his meeting with the Greek Cypriot Special Aide Yorgos Yakovu which was held this morning.

Today’s meeting was also attended by technical experts and was based on discussions regarding EU matters.

While President Talat and the Greek Cypriot President Demetris Christofias maintain Cyprus peace negotiations with the EU Matters, their special aides also continue their separate discussions to help minimizing the elements of disagreement existing between the two sides over the chapters negotiated so far.

In an earlier statement on last week’s meeting with Yakovu, Ozdil Nami said the two sides made a review of the documents of rapprochement last Friday.
The meeting was held in a very positive atmosphere, he added.

Talat’s Special Representative also noted that, after today’s meeting, they will return to their discussions on Governance and Power-Sharing, which was the first chapter of talks.

On the other hand, Talat and Christofias will hold this week’s round on Thursday the 2nd of April.

The two leaders are expected to finish up with their direct discussions on EU matters this week.

The awaiting chapter at the talks is the Economy.

Interesting word this "rapproachement" and to have "reached a level" of it.

A level of rapproachement?

Meaningless? Well it can mean anything you want it to so I guess it is meaningless.

Can there be a 50-50 split in Euro seats when the EU system of voting is so directly proportionate?

In Greece political parties wanted to apply the Greek voting system to Euroelections, but the plan was rejected by the EU who insisted on its own direct representation system which is based on population size and participation by all political forces.

In the UK, in the South East region we have 6 million voters with 10 seats and in Northern Ireland we have 1 million voters with 3 seats, perfectly acceptable. We will have as many seats as the agreement will contain.

That is not a fair allocation is it? The EU accepted it.
