Book: Who was Alexander the Great? Author: David Nasmyth
Page 8: "Alexander the Great became King of Macedonia, the most powerful state in Greece, in 336 BC. Within 13 years, and with an army of never more than 35,000 men, he had confirmed himself as master of Greece. He had also defeated the vast Persian Empire, conquering territories in Asia Minor, Egypt and India. But Alexander was more than just a brilliant general. He was also a pupil of the famous Greek philosopher, Aristotle, and a lover of Greek drama and literature. His conquests were responsible for spreading Greek thought and culture throughout Egypt, northern India , central Asia and the eastern Mediterranean."
