“Hellenism” - the greatest mythology of them all!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Repent tonight dear Simon, for tomorrow things are going to get tougher... Image

I should hope so GR, as I expected more from you. It certainly couldn't get any easier.

I think likewise about you. Now what?

What's that got to do with the price of fish?

BTW have you tested yours? Are you a pure Delphi-ite? On second thoughts, better not, unless you're prepared to uncover a smattering of Levantine, Arabic, Phoenician, probably even Turkish roots. What might that do to your sense of self?

Oracle wrote: BTW Greece is only a "modern construct" because of its hundreds of years of slavery.

While the "ancient construct" was a collection of rival and often warring city states, extending throughout the eastern Mediterranean. But Oracle, like I said, it was a long time ago... let's focus on fixing the toilet system.

Worthless? What are you talking about? I'm not suggesting anything of the sort. Cyprus is an island, constructed tens of thousands of years ago. And as for the modern Cypriot nation. That's still very much under construction. I believe it started in earnest not in 1960 but 2004, when it became an equal member of the European family, alongside Greece which is now a sister rather than a mother.

Again you are all wasting your time with useless arguments.

As far as I am aware there was never a genocide of Ancient Greeks, nor they ever sterilized them to prevent them from reproducing.

So it goes without saying that those people continued to live in their lands and have children, grandchildren and so on and so forth. So if we are not Greeks then where are the descendants of the Ancient Greeks? In Japan?

Of course there will always be population movements and mixing. This happens everywhere (maybe less in remote places like Iceland) and always. This happened at the time of Ancient Greeks as well. Is there anybody that believes that there was the "Greek Adam" and the "Greek Eva" who were the "Original Greeks" and all ancient Greeks were a product of incest? Ancient people mixed with others about as much as modern people do. At that time they mixed with invasions, colonization, slavery etc, and today we mix with immigration.

So there is no such thing as a "pure" race. Nobody is "pure" race. We are as "pure" Greeks as the ancient Greeks were.

You are exaggerating the degree of mixing. In Cyprus there was no more mixing than anywhere else, since in general most people married to people of their own language and religion.

I would say that the most mixing in Cyprus happens today with several (still a small minority) Cypriots being married to other European (mostly) people. Go 50 years ago and before, and this phenomenon was almost non existent. Foreigners were all around, but Cypriots were not getting married to them.

I believe Get Real! has already regretted starting this thread...

So GR, if the modern and the ancient Greeks are unrelated despite the apparent cultural, historical and linguistic continuity of the Hellenic world, how come you are a Chirokitian when you are clueless about your "ancestors'" language and culture? Can't you see how ridiculous your theories sound?

I have two more questions GR,

How come these guys over there at maknews.com have scanned the same pages of the same books you have and how come you have highlighted the exact same paragraphs with the exact same color?

http://www.maknews.com/forum/macedonian ... b9326a600d

Also, why did you bother copying and pasting the images to a different host (postimage) when you could have used the links already used in that forum?
 You are a joke after all, you would have people believe you did some kind of a "research", when all you did was copy propaganda crap from FYROM's history revisionists. Shame on you

Lol! Great find alexISS.

He is from the same commie nation building school as the "Slavo-Macedonians" that is why. While displaying the usual hypocritic commie alleged aversion to nationalism, he has no problem to alchemate a "Cypriot Cypriot" nation out of nothing but ideology. The Turks Cypriots and Greek Cypriots are both one single proletariat seperated only by lurking foreign powers and "right wing fanatics on both sides". In this manner while hissing so loud about nationalism, they are the worst nationalists of all.
