halil wrote:TRNC President Mehmet Ali Talat has criticized the Greek Cypriot Foreign Minister for his words that the meeting expected to take place between him and the US Secretary of State would not take place.
“He may be right, if the US is being ruled by the Greek Cypriot Administration”, the President said, adding that the Administration did not have the capacity to do that.
“It is not the end of the world. It was just an invitation. If the Greek Cypriot Administration prevents the realization of the visit by issuing threats, it is stronger than the super power`, the President said while responding to reporters’ questions on the issue.
`We received information that an invitation would be extended to us. I welcomed it` he said, adding that he was later told that the date proposed for his meeting with the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was not appropriate for Clinton.
`There is nothing for the Greek Cypriot Foreign Minister to get excited about`, he noted.
President Talat: “If the Greek Cypriot Administration Can Cancel an Invitation by … Threatening the World, then it is More Powerful than the Super Power”
President Mehmet Ali Talat today was asked to comment on Greek Cypriot reports claiming that his visit to the United States of America has been cancelled.
“If the Greek Cypriot Administration can wrestle to cancel an invitation by threatening the world, then it is more powerful than the superpower,” said Talat. “Or it has the ability to do this by making a lot of noise.”
Asked to comment on statements by Greek Cypriot Foreign Minister that the visit was cancelled, Talat said:
“If the Greek Cypriot Administration is controlling the United States of America, then what he said might be true. But as far as I know, the Greek Cypriot Administration has no such power and capacity. As I said before, (cancellation) would not mean the end of the world. If the Greek Cypriot Administration can wrestle to cancel an invitation by threatening the world, then it is more powerful than the superpower. Or it has the ability to do this by making a lot of noise. I am not the one who should be ashamed of this. It doesn’t matter to me. I did not seek this (visit) anyway. I received information that such an invitation was expected. And I responded positively. In the end, they said “it did not fit in the schedule,” and I said “thank you.” I had nothing else to say. I don’t see why the Greek Cypriot Foreign Minister was so excited.”
Asked whether he had raised the issue with Greek Cypriot Leader Demetris Christofias, Talat said; “No, why would I?” Talat stated that those who are responsible are shameful.
