Detailed information has been provided about the Traffic Safety Improvement Program being funded by the European Union with the aim of improving traffic safety in North Cyprus.
The EU is proving 3-million euros for the realization of the Project, which will be implemented by the Danish Consia firm in cooperation with the TRNC authorities.
Current traffic situation in North Cyprus will be determined as the first step to be taken within the framework of the project. The Project will be implemented in 6 different phases.
Speaking at a special meeting, Ahmet Havanik, an official from the Interior Ministry explained that the Traffic Safety Improvement program was one of the projects to be implemented as part of the EU Financial Aid Regulation.
He said that the aim of the project is to improve traffic capacity in the Republic.
Skovbjerg Helge, An official from the Consia firm – which won the tender for the project – explained that the information would be collected on reasons behind traffic accidents, the flow of traffic would be improved and children would be educated as part of the project.
He noted that campaigns would be launched to get the support of the people to the new practices to be implemented, which he called as the most important phase.
