Postby Ricky » Tue Mar 24, 2009 9:00 pm

Hi all.....

I plan to move to Cyprus this year and wanted to take my
motorbike test in the UK before i leave

it will cost £650+ for my direct access test in UK :x

How much in Cyprus? and what are the rules regarding cc size after you pass

Best wishes and thank you

Hi Rick welcome to the forum.
You can ride what you like, where you like,as loud as you like and as fast as you like. The cops don't seem to care and they can't catch you up anyway.
Don't even bother packing your helmet or your leathers,no body else does.
P.s Don't worry about a licence,if you do get caught, just speak English, say you are going back tomorrow and they will let you off

You don't really need a licence, insurance, road tax, number plates, MOT, a silencer or a helmet.

The kids (some as young as 13) ride up and down the Kissonerga Race Way at speeds far in excess of the speed limit doing wheelies and the good sport is attacking the speed bumps at such speed to see how high the bike will take off.

Yes, the police look on and do nothing.

I fear one day there will be a very serious accident in Kissonerga when one or more of these boys lose control when something very hard like a big stone lorry is coming the other way.

Sorry that this doesn't exactly help you with your post which was a serious question but that is the common situation I'm afraid in most of the villages over here.

That actually happened a couple of years ago when some moron was doing a wheelie, lost control, mounted the pavement and run over two kids. I think they were both killed, correct me if I am wrong. And what has happened since then ? FUCK ALL.
The motorbikes are bigger faster and louder.
There is a pub I go to on the seafront in Limassol to drink watch football about fifty feet from the traffic lights and what seems like every other light change you hear a loud roar as they take off and if you turn your head round fast enough you might see the stupid wanker just touching down from a wheelie, while everyone is loudly hoping that the rider would fall off and wrap his brainless body round a lampost.(and that does happen sometimes,at least lamposts don't feel pain).

Hi Rick,
The replies you've had are both very true :? If I were you I'd take the direct access in the UK, believe me it's worth it, you'll learn life savers and how to ride properly. If you need eyes in the back of your head in the UK it goes double over here, my husband was knocked off his bike by a 'lady' who then just waved and drove off!

Things are changing where the police are concerned, they have just taken delivery of 50 new fireblades, whether they can ride them is another matter :P

Didn't some police chief get up and make a statement a few months ago that they (the police) were going to have a campaign to tackle the menace of under age riders and illegal noisy motorbikes in the villages of Tala, Kissonerga and Emba?

Also, haven't they got or supposed to have some scheme this year to try to reduce road deaths on the Cyprus roads this year. What bullshit, come over and welcome to the Kissonerga Race Way. Be patient and wait a while, you may get lucky and actually see someone injured or killed.

For a preview of what you might expect to see, go on to Google Earth, find Kissonerga and click on Photos and Videos. There you will see some idiot doing wheelies while being filmed.
