The Turkish Cypriot "New Cyprus Party" has announced it will boycott the upcoming "elections" in the Turkish occupied north of Cyprus, which are scheduled for April. T
he party also called on Turkey to give Cypriots the opportunity to speak out.
“It is claimed that there are elections in the northern part of Cyprus but in reality, they cannot be called elections, a party statement says.
Alpay Durduran, Foreign Relations Secretary of the party, said: “Turkey is everywhere in the north, affecting everything and our lives."
He added that the boycott will convey the party's position to the Greek Cypriots.
He criticised Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat, saying that he is too influenced by Ankara.
“Turkey should stop exerting its influence," Durduran added
