Welcome Christofore,

For starters you need to steer clear from a guy called Get Real!

This is a highly politicised forum where some of the prisoners in the Cyprus Problem pages have been known to wonder in the general pages from time to time. Be thick skinned and be prepared for confrontation (mostly from Greek Cypriots  )

Now as a helping hand with regards to the Cypriot dialect you need to try this website first.

http://wikipriaka.com/cy

It'll give you the word in Cypriot and a translation in Greek and English.

As for the culture, well as Ghandi put it for western civilisation....That would be a great idea!

Seriously though, you need to get over here to see for yourself.

Welcome ... :D

There's no difference in language, "blood", culture, etc .... only local embellishments .... much like any other regional socio-culturo-linguistic variation found worldwide.

There will be lots of interesting snippets to follow from other posters, and I'll try and think of something for later.

Greece and Cyprus united in Europe! 8)

Oh I see DT sneaked in there  Pay attention to his warning! ... There are a few remaining truly-original indigenous natives that are always on the warpath against us more recent invaders of only several thousand years ago.

Here's a link CBBB posted a while back which is funny ...

http://www.englesos.com/cms/index.php?m ... tion=16:16

(It's more for Charlies ... but it gives you a taste of most modern Cypriots ... who are now originally all Charlies ... apparently)

Evolutionary Order:

Choirokitian ---> Cypriot ---> Charlie ----> Modern Cypriot

Welcome to the forum, Cyprus is just like any other Greek Island with it's own local customs. The Greek dialect spoken on Cyprus is called Arcadocypriot, this comes from Arcadia in the central Peloponnese of Greece. All thou now modern Greek is taught in Cyprus. Cyprus history is very close to Crete, as it had a Minoan period then a Mycenaean period.

For the ancient Arcado-Cypriot dialect you can start from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcadocypriot_Greek

For modern Greek dialects, including Cypriot, this article gives detailed description:

Welcome!

Well being mostly from Crete you should have no problem appreciating the local differences that give Cyprus its unique character, the same process works to make Crete a very distinct place unlike any other in Greece.

Some Cypriots like to think that they are distinct from mainland Greeks. Some think otherwise.
