Spiders and conkers - true or false? What do you think?

Postby Emma PT » Fri Mar 20, 2009 5:20 pm

Hi all,

Have you heard this story about spiders being repelled by conkers (chestnuts)?

Is there any truth to this?

One guy has done this interesting (and funny) experiment:

I prefer to have spiders, rather than conkers stuck on Blue-Tack, around my home.

Besides, spiders eat flies ....

No I haven't, wasn't that bothered by spiders till I moved to Cyprus  :o
But my friend used to have conkers in her house and she reckoned they worked, something to do with the smell? :)

I am sorry, but I am really perplexed! :?

Why would spiders be wary of "conker" smells"?

This is the most bizarre thread ever ... like something out of "Twilight Zone" ....

Not really, but it made my friend feel better, so in that sense it worked

She is so scared of spiders I once put a large pink, plastic spider on her shoulder in a shop and she completely freaked

I beg to differ, not ALL spiders are harmless :? and if Emma is thinking of using conkers/chestnuts in her home in the hope of deterring spiders then she isn't harming them, merely requesting that they vacate her premises and relocate somewhere else, perhaps they could move in with you? :P
