Dehellenising Cyprus, Clinton on Turk minority

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

I don't give anything up, I just refuse to devote my time being your teacher; unless money is involved. I have already contributed loads of evidence and I don't like working pro bono.

Yes reputations of warriors and such like are prone to interpretation, like the Romans' attempts to nullify Cleopatra's Greek descendancy to justify their attack ... but whole civilisations, completely made, up as you are suggesting!

As an example, the Kingdom of Macedonia was a distinct kingdom from Greece yet later when Alexander the Great amalgamated them, it was the Greeks who claimed ancestry to Alexander because Greece grew stronger over the centuries, retained some of the former Macedonian land, and were able to dig up and present artifacts as their own! Such border shifting was very common in the past and proved very convenient for some who later found themselves in a position and at the right time to officially write history.

Wrong fool, Alexander declared himself a Hellen fool!

Speech of Alexander the Great to the Athenians ----> Herodotus Book IX ,45,

HAD I NOT GREATLY AT HEART THE COMMON WELFARE OF GREECE, I SHOULD NOT HAVE COME TO TELL YOU; BUT I AM MYSELF A GREEK BY DESCENT AND WOULD NOT WILLINGLY SEE GREECE EXCHANGE FREEDOM FOR SLAVERY.

 Herodotus wrote that? Even though he died about 100 years before Alexander was born?

Yeah you got me there fool, next time I'll be more careful with my sources. Anyway here is what I should have posted:-

Speech Of Alexander I (498-454 BC), the son of Amyntas, the King and commander of the Macedonians from 479BC.

After Mardonius had put his question about the prophecies, and spoken the above words of encouragement, night drew on apace, and on both sides the watches were set. As soon then as there was silence throughout the camp,—the night being now well advanced, and the men seeming to be in their deepest sleep,—Alexander, the son of Amyntas, king and leader of the Macedonians, rode up on horseback to the Athenian outposts, and desired to speak with the generals. Hereupon, while the greater part continued on guard, some of the watch ran to the chiefs, and told them, “There had come a horseman from the Median camp who would not say a word, except that he wished to speak with the generals, of whom he mentioned the names.”

They at once, hearing this, made haste to the outpost, where they found Alexander, who addressed them as follows:—

“Men of Athens, that which I am about to say I trust to your honour; and I charge you to keep it secret from all excepting Pausanias, if you would not bring me to destruction. Had I not greatly at heart the common welfare of Greece, I should not have come to tell you; but I am myself a Greek by descent, and I would not willingly see Greece exchange freedom for slavery. Know then that Mardonius and his army cannot obtain favourable omens; had it not been for this, they would have fought with you long ago. Now, however, they have determined to let the victims pass unheeded, and, as soon as day dawns, to engage in battle. Mardonius, I imagine, is afraid that, if he delays, you will increase in number. Make ready then to receive him. Should he however still defer the combat, do you abide where you are; for his provisions will not hold out many more days. If ye prosper in this war, forget not to do something for my freedom; consider the risk I have run, out of zeal for the Greek cause, to acquaint you with what Mardonius intends, and to save you from being surprised by the barbarians. I am Alexander of Macedon.”
As soon as he had said this, Alexander rode back to the camp, and returned to the station assigned him.

So, now that we’ve all had our little warm-up, are we all ready to open the “Hellenic” files in a fresh new thread?

I’ve postponed this for a long time because I didn’t have the time for it but I realize now that I have to deal with this issue too because you Greeks are like bloody horse flies!

No offence to anyone but I prefer that TCs stay out of it and let’s make it…

GR Vs (Simon + Yialoussa + Oracle + Nikiforos + Paphitis + Piratis)

…but we can always vote democratically on it. Feel free to add more Greeks or Greek sympathizers/supporters in your team.

GR,

I think a further thread will just be prolonging your misery.

Myths propagated by you and FYROM, such as "The Macedonians had nothing to do with the Greeks" have already been well and truly debunked by my posts.

But if you're a sucker for punishment, be my guest.

That's the "ancient Greek" spirit!

On reflection, I think any of the regular GC/Greeks should be able to post against you, since your hypothesis affects us all.

By requesting only regular GC/Greeks to post, I hope that would prevent any newbies (of unknown persuasion), who might derail debate.

And the only reason I think you should be the only opposition, is that you are the Colossus of this reasoning.

If any of the regular GC/Greeks feel they have been persuaded to your "side", then they can either join you and back you up, or step down. You choose!

Those are just my feelings, and amenable to modification ....

Exactly… the derailing is always what kills threads. ie: There’s no point in someone throwing a “Zito oi Ellas!” in the middle of it all!

I’m happy alone and don’t ask for assistance… I should be able to wrap this up swiftly and decisively. 8)
