I bet if it was the flag of the "Republic of Cyprus" you won't think it's stupid. The only stupid thing is that they use Atatürk's message "Ne Mutlu Türküm Diyene" (How happy is he/she who calls himself/herself a Turk) When they could of wrote a more useful message by Atatürk, e.g Turkey's Motto: Yurtta Sulh, Cihanda Sulh (Peace at Home, Peace in the World)
Yes we would think it is stupid.
There is a time and a place for a flag and it is not defacing mountainsides, 24/7 ....
BTW even the second quote by Ataturk would be offensive as his message was loaded, and since he was such an evil person, anything he said is questionable, and we do not wish to be associated with megalomaniacs ...
Where is the freedom of speech and freedom of expression then?
Anyway, Ataturk said, "Ne mutlu Türküm diyene" only at the end of one of his most excited speeches. It is said under the then circumstances in a sense of "How happy he/she is who calls himself/herself a compatriot of Turkey". There's no any other speeches of Atatürk containing the same phrase. To the contrary he mostly call on people of Turkey as "My compatriots". It's not Ataturk's bequeath that phrase to be written on the walls.
I agree that it's not necessary to write such a phrase on the walls but prohibition of expressing that phrase would constitute a violation of freedom of speech, imo.
Ps: A person such as Oracle who bears the exaggerated wounds of Greco-Turco wars; even the existence of Turks in Asia minor and Cyprus is offensive for her; let alone Ataturk's phrases on the walls...
