Cyprus Property Developers should get what's coming to them

Postby Holly2009 » Sat Mar 14, 2009 5:35 pm

It seems that property developers in Cyprus are to suffer from the global slowdown. How many people feel sorry for them?

I have no sympathy - for years they have been ripping people off, building homes without legal plannig permission and holding onto Title Deeds after buyers have paid in full.

The slowdown is nothing to do with the economic slowdown is it? It's because UK & Irish buyers have got wise and won't buy homes in Cyprus anymore.

It's now common knowlegde in the UK that buying in Cyprus is like flushing your life savings down the toilet. No one is that stupid,

The Cyprus Government will have to take robust action if its economy is going to recover from the global recession. After all, the construction industry is an economic barometer of how a nation is fairing.

The US housing market is showing signs of recovery but Cyprus never will unless buyers are protected.

I was talking to a Cypriot gentleman the other day and we got onto the subject of building, developers, title deeds etc.

He told me that despite successive governments promising to get the title deeds fiasco sorted and under control nothing has happened because the developers seem to have too much power.

How do you mean says I?

Well the money goes all the way up to the top he said and they (the government) don't really want it to change do they? When you have a situation that has been ongoing for over twenty years it becomes part of the Cypriot culture.

Del boy says "nice little earner Rodney"

Seems to me that things will never change.

If, as you say the British market is exhausted due to all the bad publicty then they, (the developers) will look to other countries for another long
line of suckers to come over here and throw their money around just as the British have been doing for the last twenty years or more.

Now several Euro MPs have had so many complaints from the English community they (the MPs) are asking the Cyprus government difficult questions about people being swindled and cheated out of their life savings despite hiring English speaking Lawyers to advise them.

Where will it all end? my crystal ball is unable to tell you but it tells me, Buyer Beware.

All good things must come to an end, but this is not the end !
It may not be your tourist villa but building in Cyprus is still happening. As for property developers good luck to them, they provide a service and thousands of Brits bought thinking they were in for making a financial killing, now that things have changed the whinging starts.
Rule of thumb, don't spend what you cannot afford.

Of course Holly thinks property developers in the UK are run like Charities.

Those fantasises extend to being blind to the British being responsible for over half of ALL the credit owed in the WHOLE of Europe, combined.

Where are these wise Brits and Irish, with lots of "money", buying instead?

how is this a good thing having your stolen land sold to foreigners? or you mean good for the english buying stolen land cheap and then having a problem when the owners take them to court saying greedy greeks. i think if the land is not stolen then great why not buy land but they buy land and dont care that its stolen and just hope that there is never a solution so they can keep the land, withotu a care for the cypriot people..

when i was in england working the olde rmen i would get alot of comments like bloody foreigner :/

now its their turn to go down and lose their money for buying stolen land
