Darwin was banned on new issue: Bilim ve Teknik in Turkey

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

Even not something like "Evolution Made Simple" for Upper (senior) High Schools ?

Google for it and you will be amazed with the evolution of the net in bringing you sources at a snap of finger !

LIKE WITH LIKE ?

The charges are that a science funding agency of the RoT banned the publication of the Darwin Dossier so that there is the double charge of suppressing the theory and also of political interference with the journal.

So perhaps Cem could click his fingers and search out some recent example s where governments in RoG and USA have banned darwinism in the press?

Like with like please otherwise we may as well compare the press in Iran or teaching of evolution in Mecca. Lower ourselves to the lowest level to justify a position?

Cem: That's fine if you like to eat cake, without knowing how it's made or just learning to ice it but without having a clue how it came to be! Of course you may be satisfied with a ready-baked cake, but then that's not synonymous with gaining an education ... just satisfying gluttony.

Once you understand the chemical nature of DNA, the salient features of its replication, recombination, mutability, conservation and redundancy of codon usage, homologies, cellular morphology, control of development by RNA, transcription and translation of proteins and how they switch genes on and off etc.; then move towards whole organism studies and the control mechanisms, imprinting etc, to allow you make meaningful comparisons ... then you may go some way to understanding why and how Evolution works. Otherwise you would fall flat at the first question doubting Evolution. No good to anyone. But keep Googling if you know how to weigh up junk from data worth spending time on.

So there is no ban on teaching evolution in Greece, but the teachers are smart enough to concentrate on the basics first. Since there is no banning, the smart kids can read up readily available science articles, something denied to them in Turkey, even to science and medicine graduates.

Stop talking rubbish oracle. Evolution is not taught in Cyprus either and it is not because the teachers are smart. What a daft thing to say! They do not teach evolution because the teachers are smart and teach only basics leaving the difficult staff to be found on the web! I think you are stone crazy! Do you actually believe what you are saying?

Are you one of these "smart" Biology teachers who would like to teach Evolution but is prevented merely because the Church has banned it? What nonsense. I seem to recall you had trouble with "imprinting" last time we had an in-depth discussion.

Of course I was not encouraging filling in with Googling, but not preventing Cem from doing so, since that is his wish.

I was actually reminding him that scientific articles can be published without such banning in Greece, where the information would be available for those wishing to extend themselves ... such as does not happen in Turkey.

Furthermore, there is a real dilemma at some Universities in the UK, where medical students from islamic countries refuse to attend lectures on Evolution.

Bananiot,
Oracackle is, as usual, just talking rubbish. She speaks out of sheer ignorance and bigotry.

Scientific articles can't be published in Turkey ? You're an idiot Oracle

The ones you have to worry about when it comes to evolution are (a) the churches/religion (in Cyprus, in Greece, in UK, in Turkey, in Pakistan, in USA ....) and (b) the evangelical christians in UK education.
