Step change in British policy?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Step change in British policy?

[quote]MILLET – TURKEY – CYPRUS ISSUE

British High Commissioner to Cyprus Peter Millet has expressed the hope that after municipal elections in Turkey, on March 29, Ankara will confront the Cyprus question with a new approach, adding that Britain is expecting Turkey to fulfill the obligations it has undertaken towards the EU.

In statements after a meeting here with left-wing party AKEL General Secretary Andros Kyprianou, Millet said that British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has agreed with Cyprus President Demetris Christofias that Britain is at the disposal of the involved parties “to support in any way President Christofias’ effort to solve the problem.”

“From our side we hope that we will contribute to the President’s efforts to solve the problem,” Millet added.

Is it just me, or is this a far more pro-Cypriot statement, from what we are used to seeing? Here, Britain is requesting a NEW approach from Turkey. Couple this with the Memorandum that Gordon Brown signed with Christofias not so long ago, which was anathema to the Turks, and it seems that Britain has changed policy from the Jack Straw days.

Before or after the elections; there r thousands of similar statements made by the then officials of all concerned parties of Cyprus problem since 50s.

The new approach of Turkey can only be something she hasn't put on her agenda since 1965 and that is partition of Cyprus.

Brits r against partition because in a partitioned Cyprus, I don't think Hellenes would allow them keep their SBAs in South Cyprus.

Soon we will get the details of the "new approach" of Turkey.
