The Smoking Ban??

Postby cyprusgeoff » Fri Mar 13, 2009 5:19 pm

I saw this report and thought.....??

Smoking ban before summer

PARLIAMENT yesterday examined three possible scenarios on how to impose the smoking ban, set to be implemented in the summer.

The first scenario is a complete ban in all public areas, without the possibility of having designated smoking areas.

Another possibility could be a ban but with establishments’ owners having the option of creating separate smoking areas, with full ventilation.

The third solution was to allowing the creation of special separate clubs for smokers, who will have to enrol as members in order to be allowed access. These clubs will ban entry to anyone under the age of 18.

The House Health Committee has for months been discussing ways to better implement the smoking ban; a law they passed last year but has been completely ineffective as it was subject to multiple interpretations.

The issue came to a head when EU Health Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou berated the Cyprus government for failing to impose the harmonising law successfully.

The Committee is still unsure of when it will reach a final decision on the matter but according to its Chairman, Eleni Theocharous of DISY, the aim is to submit a final report to the Plenum for approval in coming weeks.

The certainty is that the ban will be implemented in time for the summer.

BUT they're not telling us which Summer!

This disgusting third world nasty smelly unhealthy habit ought to be banned from all public places .
I remember being at the Kourion restaurant last year where next to me 2 male plonkers with two female plonkeresess were chain smoking the bloody smell was enough for me to tell them to move to another table , strangely enough they apologised and changed tables . They were all Cypriots .
I believe it is still considered " cool " to smoke in Cyprus , they take it from the Greeks who still puff away on tv shows stupid bastards.

I frequently see groups of high school students - male and female - congregating on street corners and puffing away like mad. It looks like there will be at least one more generation of chain smokers on the island.

My beloved fellow smokers.

Don't have any sympathy for the politically correct, ban smoking, ban anything they don't approve of, plonkers who seem to forget that they have free will and a pair of legs and are still free to use these as well as using the cars and planes that cause so much damage to the health of others.

By the way any chance of banning pets, banning alcohol, banning overweight fat people, banning unattractive people, banning people from having babies unless they've been DNA tested, banning people who wear loud shirts, banning black people who are too black, banning people who use mobile phones in public, banning teenagers from congregating noisily on street corners, banning old men with ugly legs wearing shorts etc ?

It will boil down to one word: IMPLEMENTATION! :!: :!: :!:
I remember last december I was in a cafe, which was split between non-smoking and smoking sections. Upon arrival we were asked by the pretty waitress if we would smoke or not. We said no and we were situated in the non-smoking section. After a few minutes a couple sat near us. They started smoking after a few minutes! They were followed by a group of young blokes. All this happened in the non-smoking section. By the way, in the smoking section there was a big cloud of smoke free to travel in the whole cafe. I guess the idea of the smoking/non-smoking sections was a lot of smoking vs. moderate smoking. :?
