Don't have any sympathy for the politically correct, ban smoking, ban anything they don't approve of, plonkers who seem to forget that they have free will and a pair of legs and are still free to use these as well as using the cars and planes that cause so much damage to the health of others.

By the way any chance of banning pets, banning alcohol, banning overweight fat people, banning unattractive people, banning people from having babies unless they've been DNA tested, banning people who wear loud shirts, banning black people who are too black, banning people who use mobile phones in public, banning teenagers from congregating noisily on street corners, banning old men with ugly legs wearing shorts etc ?

Yes Bill I disagree with you .!!! Any reason why I should have to inhale dirty smelling stale tobacco when I'm enjoying my drink in a bar , no one is taking your freedom away but you can not crap on the floor where I'm standing having a drink. Go out in the street as they do in the UK.
My pet and my alcohol do not interfere with your right to breath in air and not someones tobacco smell.
Smoking is unsocial , unhealthy , and it's smelly .
Ban smoking in public places I say !!
ps. I do wear shorts and I do have rather good pins !

My dog lies by my feet at home when I'm having a glass or two of wine . He is actually rather partial to a little red wine but will only drink vintage such as Chateau Margaux !!!!

Well, thank you all for your opinions on this but don't you think this is just another well intentioned bit of legislation that will never be fully be accepted by the majority of smokers.

Can you really believe that all the old (and young) boys in all the coffee shops and tavernas will either not smoke or be provided with a separate non smoking area?

I expect the best we can hope for is a bucket of water placed in the centre
of the coffee shop floor to catch all the fag ends should the police appear.

A bit difficult for Mr Policeman to get out of his police car, tread on his cigarette butt then enter the coffee shop and start booking those inside who are having a fag.

Yeah right, I don't think so!

And is a police car a public place or not? If there are two policemen in it and one doesn't smoke does the non smoker then book his mate?

Too many loop holes and grey areas I think. Your comments please!

Re Geoff

I thought of the kafenion in the village with your OP.

I suspect any young pair of constables trying to enforce any ban would get a well-deserved verbal hiding from the local old boy smokers and sent on their way back to our brave new world. I say well-deserved cos it would be another attack on the old cy culture.

For Gawd's sake let us smoke ourselves to death in peace.

Smoking is digusting and we should not have to breathe in their filth. They've chose to smoke, we haven't. Bars and restaurants in the UK are a much nice place to visit now. Bring it on Cy!
