Halil, your poor English is letting you down again because “Northern Cyprus” as used by Bayrak implies a name of a place which doesn’t officially exist, but “northern part” as used by UNFICYP correctly refers to a territorial section of a land.

You've basically provided evidence to support what the others have already told you. The "trick" is in the capitalization.

What I like or don't like is irrelevant to the fact that you thought you provided evidence to support something that turned out to work against you. End of story.

Sorry but unlike others, I NEVER indulge my debating opponents with the luxury of jumping around like a rabbit on heat from one issue to the next and always aim for a CONCLUSION which we now have.

Next thread... :)

The seminar was held at the Lefkosa Ataturk Open University Faculty this afternoon.

Representatives of Turkish Cypriot, Greek Cypriot, Turkish and Greek leading business institutions came together at the seminar for the first time.
Addressing the seminar, President Mehmet Ali Talat said that EU membership could only be achieved through the Turkish Cypriot peoples’ will for a solution.

He however added that the will of the people was not enough on its own to reach a political settlement on the island.

“Had the Greek Cypriot Side shown the same willingness as 1Turkish Cypriots for a settlement, North Cyprus’s EU dream would not hang in the limbo” he said, adding that it was important to maintain the will towards reaching a solution.

“Otherwise the EU door may close and this would not be good for anyone” the President added.

Talat also explained that the negotiating a settlement in Cyprus was difficult because of the inequality that existed between the two sides.
“You have one side that will gain much from a settlement and another side that has nothing to lose even in the absence of a solution, Talat added.

Also speaking, Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer complained that efforts were being made to prevent Turkish Cypriots and Turkey from joining the EU.

Soyer also underlined the need to improve the country’s economy while preparing for EU Accession as well as to become an equal partner in Cyprus.

Explaining that the Greek Cypriot Side’s unilateral membership to the EU in the absence of a solution was creating difficulties for Turkey’s and the Turkish Cypriots’ accession in the EU, Mr Soyer said that the only way to overcome there obstacles was wanting a settlement and to bring the country’s economic, social and democratic structure to EU standards.
Stating that it was everyone’s duty to contribute to the success of the current negotiations process, the premier said as the Turkish Cypriot People will continue to work towards joining the EU.

REHN ‘AN IMPORTANT CHANCE FOR REUNIFICATION OF CYPRUS”

The General Assembly of the European Parliament has approved a draft report on Turkey prepared by the Dutch Parliamentarian Ria Oomen-Ruijten.

The report, was approved by 528 to 52 votes.

The European Parliament report calls on Turkey to speed up its reform process and urged the European Council to open with Turkey membership negotiations on chapters which the European Commission had given technical greenlight.

It also cited Turkey as "an important NATO country" and urged consultations with Turkey in devising a joint European security and defense policy.

The Turkish government was also urged by the European Parliament report for renewed work to draft "a new civilian constitution that would place basic freedoms and human rights at its core," saying that the country's political parties and election laws should be amended.

The report includes the view that Turkey should withdraw its troops in Cyprus to ease the negotiations atmosphere and to allow the two leaders on the island to freely negotiate the future of their country.

Speaking at yesterday’s session, the EU Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn said that an important chance was seized in 2009 to reunite Cyprus.

The Commissioner also underlined the importance of the support to be provided by Turkey to the negotiation process.
