I think gavcari = something like maraho/wild fennel (same family). These wild mushrooms are large, grayish usually found underneath these plants. Thats why in Turkish we calll them the 'mushroom of the gavcar'. We need a proper bi-linguist to translate gavcar into Greek/Cypriote.

Gavcar also is the plant from which we used to make small stools (to sit on) in villages. It certainly looks like a large Maraho/Fennel.

We came across these mushrooms in a thread a couple of weeks ago. From memory, they are Oyster mushrooms found in association with wild fennel.

Ofcourse, Oyster mushroom. Possibly it is Oracles 'Manidaria'. Thats it. They cant beat the Chanterelle like ones we used to find in dry river beds near cane plantations. They probably are Chanterelle. Aaaah the aroma it exudes. I havent got a clue what they are called in Cyprus. Havent even heard of them for more than 40 years. They await for my return to the plains near Kivisili.
