A bit BOLD, don't you think Oracle? I mean, TCs and GCs Do Not speak the same language, have almost Nothing in common in terms of Culture, Religious beliefs and we are not controlled by the Greek Orthodox Church. In fact, there is no, and never has been a "Homogeneous Cypriot Population". We have always lived separately, attended separate Greek and Turkish schools and only a select few, out of necessity, learnt how to speak the other language.

If Wales, Scotland, England and Northern Ireland live under one Kingdom (let's say republic), but as separate Constituent Countries, then why can't we?

Clearly the unification of Cyprus is Not going to happen the way the Greek Cypriots want, but perhaps we can Co-exist as the peoples of Cyprus in peace alternatively.

The Greek Cypriots just need to let their guard down, trust the rule of democracy, self determination and freedom - where clearly, by isolating the Turkish Cypriots and using the so-called "Turkish Invasion" as a pretext to control and minimise the Turkish Cypriots will only lead to complete Partition!

Think about what you are really trying to achieve.

See you later me-lady!

Mr H, I beg to differ. As a TC I understand what my GC friends talk about, so long as threy are talking Cypriot, when they break into the Kalamara language then I agree, we lose commonality.

Bravo re Freddie, I agree the Cy dialect is a unifying force. Still spoken by some of our northern friends including some younger ones (in my experience)

Its not just the language we have in common, the only difference we have is you guys are mostly religious and we are not, and all of you eat pork and only a few of us eat it.

We are I would say 90% the same, just an approximate guess. We certainly have more in common with the GCs than Turks. I am not anti Turkish you understand.

What is this preoccupation with GC's being religious?

Just because over 30 years ago the president was a priest, doesn't mean GC's are religious now.

Please advise as to what percentage of people are religous in the south.
In the north, I aprroximate about 5%.

Does that exclude the settlers?

Ohps, yes. I forgot about them momentarily, Deniz, please forgive me.

I think YFred is speaking in relative terms. Turkish Cypriots in my experience are remarkably non-religious.

Thank you Tim. GR take note.
Tim I will let you into a secret. In Lurucina we have same five people that attend out of 500. thats about 1% in my calculations, which will go along way towards counteracting our settler friends.

The real "platform for peace" is for all separatists looking to steal GC land to fuck off the island.

True, I must say, but the Greek Orthodox Church in the South is incredibly powerful and influential - it's strange!

You'd think that Northern Cyprus would be religious, know what I mean? But no, the Turkish Cypriots in general are very non-religious (like myself), and as for the influence of religion in the north - well, I would say that the Muslim Mosque leaders have NO-CONTROL over ANY part of the government of the TRNC, while the Greek Orthodox Religious heads are very much renowned for their Strong hold on Greek Cypriot politics.

How funny!

Cyprus can live in peace, as we do have a very long history...but the Greek Cypriot need to realise that the platform for peace, like the new states of Europe; Czech, Montenegro, Serbia, kosovo, and etc, is the way forward. I would be very happy to work with the Greek Cypriots - At a State to State level. That way we will not chance the relationship failing by a handful of hard-headed nationalists, as it only takes a few incidents to spark of a riot - or should I say - inter-communal fighting!

Mr H, you've hit the nail on the head.

Precisely.

We get on fine until those turbulent priests begin to interfere. Who will rid me of these turbulent priest? Now where did I hear that before?
I might also add that there is a few on this forum disguised as normal people wearing their dog collar underneath their shirts and blouses.

Thank you Tim. GR take note.

If and when, Turkish Cypriots officially sign away Islam and Mosques then Tim's casual "remarkably non-religious" description will attain some weight.

Not that I’m sure why you are trying to convince me that TCs are “non-religious” or care!

What makes you think I care what other people’s religion is?

Religion was never an issue on Cyprus anyway... it is people’s dubious minds and attitudes that concern me.

So what was the effect on the GC voters when you Archbishop declared that anyone who votes yes will go to hell?

I'll be glad to take you on a point by point guide through the Annan plan so that you can understand why the GC's said no. Just ask.
