The talks remain deadlocked; the
Greek Cypriots will accept nothing less than majority rule, and the
Turkish Cypriots demand greater participation in the administration
of the island than their 20-percent minority would seem to justify
.

This one sentance just about sums up the Cyprus Problem, it looks like the even the thickos at the CIA can identify the root cause!

Is this the same credible agency with the WMD in Iraq?...just asking

I always wanted to ask...why did they minority didn't have a coup and decided to elect the greatest moron that walked on earth...

Is there a special report from this credible agency highlighting the miscarriage of justice on the rest of the US population?

OK smartarse, what's wrong with majority rule. It's how most democratic countries in the world operate, so how is it a problem?

I underlined the other half of the problem which to me is the superficial part of the problem. When majority rules in cyprus where 2 rival communities exist; majority rule would only lead a GC tyranny. Let's assume that our population was 50/50. Would Athens directed GCs still have claimed Cyprus belongs to them? Definitely. The motive behind Enosis was not how long and how many "colonists" had been living in so-called "Great Greece" territories.

I strongly believe that even if TC population have been half of Cyprus population; would have faced almost with the same communal and national disputes and strifes.

The armed struggle was something developed itself and erupted in correlation of Greece's internal, political affairs where neo-fascist movement was on the rise.

The real problem rests within Greko-Turco relations. After the independence war of Greeks, Turks and Greeks have neever built a long lasting genuine friendship to resolve their disputes.

If Turkey has been an EU member, there would have been far better conditions and a political climate to resolve Greco-Turco disputes including Cyprus problem.

It is obvious that biggest obstacle in front of Turkey's EU accession is the opposition of Christian democrats because of religious reasons and large population of Turkey.

As usual Insane you are spouting crap. Put your tits away and show us your brain for a change.

The GCs felt cheated in 1960. How do you know that in the event of 50/50 population split the GCs would not have accepted the TCs as their equals, are you a bloody mind reader? Thickos like you just don't see that it was the injustice of the Zurich agreement that soured relationships between the two sides and led us into the current situation.

Of course he real problem rests within Greko-Turco relations, the Turks do not keep their word, have you never heard of the Treaty of Serves?

U don't even worth a reply Turk hater staphilynoidea. Crap is ur brain that is not even aware of the roots of the problem. The struggle for Enosis began in 1821. Was it initiated because of the majority of population was Greek. No. The then motives behind Enosis was "Megali Idea". Even today there r some political groups still running after "Megali Idea" and these political groups r particularly organized among diaspora Greeks.

Just for ur information. Makarios was withdrawn and escaped outside of Cyprus. On the other hand report states that the ultimate aim of Makarios was Enosis but not under 1974's circumstances.

Do u think the aim of fierce Turk hater, fascist Sampson was to bring peace and a just solution to Cyprus?
Sampson was only a figurehead he had the support of roughly 3 percent of the population of cyprus, the rest of the greek cyp population were fighting him out of power, he was a joke. With the cypriot population being so left wing as a whole his reign of power was minimal. Again Turkey's excuse with backing from the USA and NATO to invade and occupy is the criminal in this situation
