Nicolaos SAMPSON against Cyprus...

Nicos Samson, was a weird bloke with a bizarre sense of ethics and moral values… :?

He thought that participating in a coup to overthrow the democratically elected government of Cyprus and placing himself as “president” was ok, but running away once Turkey invaded and later getting arrested and imprisoned for treason was not! In fact he thought it was a violation of his human rights…

ECHR Application No. 19774/92 by Nicolaos SAMPSON against Cyprus

http://cmiskp.echr.coe.int/tkp197/view. ... n=hudoc-en

And the ruling of this application:

“The Commission finds that these complaints are wholly
unsubstantiated. It follows that they are manifestly ill-founded within
the meaning of Article 27 para. 2 (Art. 27-2) of the Convention.

For these reasons, the Commission, unanimously,

DECLARES THE APPLICATION INADMISSIBLE.”

President Makarios should be canonised or sanctified or whatever the religious equivalent of being awarded a Nobel Prize happens to be, just for this:

Nevertheless, the applicant's sentence was reduced as a result of
the President's exercise of the prerogative of mercy granted to all
imprisoned on two occasions, on 17 August 1977, when his sentence was
reduced to 16 years and 8 months, and on 28 February 1978, when his
sentence was reduced to 12 years and 8 months.

I still to this day cannot comprehend why most Cypriots do not just take it for granted that Greece is looking out for them, without the need for Enosis, so that we preserve our ethnicity in the face of Hunnish annihilation attempts!

You are not worth annihilating nor anyone ever planned to do so, if they did you would have been long gone without a doubt as you are no challenge for anyone around this neighbourhood.

Yet you seem to think that we are just out to get you, when it is you who wants to threaten our existence on our own lands and complains about the consequences.

You think its OK to get help from Greece?

Then we shall also get help from Turkey.
