I believe that together, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots can greatly influence the policies of Turkey to a good effect. We need to act together though in a joint effort and the best in the Turkish Cypriot community to work with are people like Talat, Akinci (is he still around?), Dr Cakici and some other leaders whose names I do not remember at this moment. NGO's and individuals can also play a decisive role to this effect, especially now when everything Turkey does is put under the microscope. A necessary prerequisite for things to happen is Turkey to become a full member of the EU.

Can you even begin to ponder on the obove, oracle, in an unbiased manner, for a change?

Bananiot I never thought that the Turks can be manipulated into doing anything by our clever bunch, on the contrary I have never thought much of any of the leaders we've had here as being very much able to convince the GC's let alone the Tc's and the Turks.

My point isn't one of fatalism, its one of avoidance of suicide. We're in the situation we are in due to idiocy, stupidity, arrogance, barbarism and many other things. I'd hate to add sandal wearing liberalism to this list cause that wll be our last nail in the coffin.

Fruit machines.

There are two types of fruit machines. The simpler type spins all the reels every time the handle is pulled. Each pull of the handle ends in a new solution.

The other kind of machine has those 'hold' buttons where the player can freeze a favourable position on any reel as the play progresses.

We've been playing with the 'hold' buttons freezing effective partition since 74' on one reel, bbf stuck on another reel since 76, equal communities on another reel etc.

The 'stupidity' or amateurism or poor negotiating skills of some "gc" leaders has allowed these 'hold' positions.

It is a concern that the "progress at the talks" will be added to the long, cumulative, no going back list in a masterclass in "stupidity" from Pres X.

(Anyone fancy playing at the Tnct casinos?)

No ... we will just be split three ways.

There is no way the TCs would want what we want! They will be fighting for their corner, begging Turkey to let them have what they want, whilst we, the GCs, are trying to negotiate not just for ourselves, but also taking into account the TCs ... and there is our weakness, right there!

The TCs go for what they want; but we go for a compromise of what we want, ever mindful of the TCs feelings.

I think we have to speak for Cyprus as one whole and not split into TCs' and GCs' "wants and deeds". The TCs are incapable of thinking of anyone but themselves.

Only the GCs will lose by this continuing altruistic approach.

The TCs have won the "pity me" war ... they have you, for example!
