Prejudice in Cyprus?

Postby alexjames2 » Thu Mar 05, 2009 11:35 am

Hi there, I am new to this forum.. something has been slightly worrying me so a bit of advice is needed. I am moving to Larnaca in April, My seven year old twin boys are starting at a school called Med High. I am divorced from their father who is a Turkish Cypriot and my father is Greek Cypriot. Will my children enter any prejudice at school because they have a turkish dad. in cidently they have regular contact with him, hes a wonderful father, lousy husband! The school is an English private International school and seemimgly has a good reputation.. many thanks. p.s we all have English names and and English surname.

i should not think so, lots of nationality in Cyprus nowadays, including Turkish Cypriots from the north. Obvoiusly, kids being kids he may get the odd remark. But in general should have no problems, is it the American Academy?

I wouldn't worry about it. A few tc kids in my son's school and nothing like that has happened.

This is a good school in the private sector. I do know that this school accommodates more Turkish Cypriots living in Pyla.

To put you at ease I do not see any problems whilst at school it will be a matter of days till they make friends with all the kids.

What age are the children?

Hi AlexJames.

My niece went to Med high for 3 years, and my other niece is on her 4th year there. Med High is a good school. You have nothing to worry about there.

Hope you enjoy Larnaca and Cyprus.

Hi Paula, I'm afraid I don't know the class sizes, but I'll try to find out for you and post it here.
