This is as far as I got before getting absolutely overwhelmed with the amount of idiocy.

Turkey IS a secular country, probably more secular than any EU member you will find, the "RoC" most probably being at the bottom of the list.

Ehh, i dont think so. Have you been reading whats been mentioning in the western press about Erdogan? Aint to good for his conservative Islamic party.

Did your church oppose to changing the history books and caused chaos or not ? Did they want to include people from church in the comitee that will reaarrange the history books... What a religion man has to do with ministiry of education.

Ministiry of education comitee :goverment People from churh in that comitee : nonsecular country...

300 odd years of Ottoman rule, meant had it not been for the church we would all have been called Mehmet and Halil over here. The church has played an important trole to the people here in the past and is slowly being downgraded.

The history book trouble is not entirely the church's fault. The govt has decided to over compensate in their usual left leaning zeal and forgot to have a small think about some of the ideals the people on this island have been living with and have died for so long.

yaaa DT ,
İf the Ottoman were that much racist you wouldn't be in here now . After 300 years .... can u imagine ..... barbars didn't use their swords man ....as u are claming .

Don't you think TMT also played an important role as well ....Halil's and Mehmets will be Nigoli or Yanni ......

What a strange life ? from everybodies perspective ..... This is CYPRUS.

some people are so blind that they even call Turkey innocent of this whole mess

DT, since the name of the struggle is majority rule VS political equality; or perhaps would be better to describe it as Self Determination Right of GCs VS Self Determination Right of TCs. It seems to me no one did any mistake. Everyone fought for their own cause. Both parties have losses and gains.

They never tells how the Greece is putting pressure on the ''ROC'' about control of the GC's army .

Slowly : Ottomans is not ruling the island for 130 years and If you still blame Ottomans for being non-secular and show the church as saints it is unfair.

Sure Ottomans was not a very civilized empire but in Cyprus they have given church the power and the church do not want to loose it and still sells the Ottoman period. Ottoman period is over but 130 years can not be called as slow. Esspecially when church causes a chaos when for the first time goverment wanted to do some sensible think to remove nationalist and chauvenist terms frm history books.

People have died for their ideals and let God bless them : but this ideals are preventing people to get closer. This is valid for both TCs and GCs. Both of us have been tried to get brainwashed. We manaed to change our history books and If you can not change it This not only shows you are a country governed by church and it also shows your words about human rights and freedom for people love the minorities and other communities is just bullshit...

You can't demand Self-Determination Rights on someone else's Territory.

You have been given a self-determined (huge) territory ... back in Turkey. If the TCs want self-determination, they should go to Turkey.

This land is Greek Cypriot!

Whole territory of Cyprus belongs all communities of Cyprus. This land belongs to it's inhabitants. If GCs want a self-determination, TCs also have the right to ask for self-determination right. If GCs don't like TC also having self-determination right; they can go Greece and leave our island to us.

No my darling! ... You do not quite understand.

Self-Determination is reserved for the natives ... and there is only one group that can be regarded as native. The rest can acquire citizenship ....

You came to this Island ... a little too late!

Secular Turkey, ohh give me a brake.

As shahmaran has already said, Zaman is an AKP newspaper. And if you actually bothered to read the article with care, those expounding non-secular views in Turkey were ????? AKP people.

Why do so many people post article on this forum without actually reading them ?
